    hi i purchased the dvd burner today in aldi and each time i try to install it my computer freezes i've an athlon processor is my pc not able to handle the power??????

    When does it freeze ???
    Before it gets to windows , or just on the boot up ?
    It could be a power related issue , and Athlon systems are hungry all right .
    what power rating is you Power Supply ?
    Need more info

    it freezes when the wizard is searching for recently connected hardware as there is no installation cd for it,reading the back of the box and it says minimum pentium 4 should i disconnect my printer or any other hardware to see if it makes any difference?

    the external DVD burner from Aldi? should it not run off its own power supply? try removing it completely and try a fresh install!

    just tried it there unplugged thw whole lot and as soon as i put the power cord into burner and usb into pc the big freeze returned tis is about the tenth time i had to reset my pc,am i on the road to nowhere here???

    Have you tried a different USB port? Or connecting it all and then turning the PC on?

    are you running Win XP , or older Win 98 ???
    If you are running Win 98 SE ed. 1 , then it doesnt support USB .

    Best to be on XP

    that didn't work anyways computer froze at log in i've given up bringing it back tomorrow
