I'm about a month into a new job and I found out today that the mileage allowance is 30c per mile. It was 62c in the last company.
It's a small company but even so 30c seems a bit low.
What I want to know is if this is too low and if so is it too soon to kick up about it?

My job is cool, technically its .60c But it does not matter. We get a set ammount each month, we just have to fill a mileage sheet of crap for records. So i usaully get about €700 or more a month tax free in expenses. Thats nice and makes up for a lower salary. the only thing i add on is parking reciepts.

is it a company car, or is it your own?
do you get a petrol allowance?
how much do you get as a car allowance?

why did you sign a contrct that agreed to 30c a mile in the first place?

Way too low. I get €1.07 a mile. Word of warning as well. We recently started to get charged 'Benefit in Kind' for milage. Out of interest does any one know if this is a set rate or dependant on the tax bracket you are in. I can't figure out how much tax I'm paying on it.

That's because you're getting more than the civil service rate...seehere

BIK is paid at whatever band your on - but some of your milage is probably judged to be tax free, possibly th efirst 60c or so of every €1.07

Ill answer these questions in the hopes of getting answer to my own situation

    1-Own
    2-Yes, 30c a mile
    3-None
4-Inexperience [first job and all that]

My question I suppose is, within the private sector, does there exist a regulation minimum amount for milage? I've only travelled about 100miles in the last 6 months but 30c seems to be very little when you consider the current cost of petrol.

I wont be signing a contract so quickly in future I can tell you that!

That it does - my place pays 60c, and I still feel it's too low!

30c is very low alright. You sure its that low?? What is it for the others working in the company.

In my place its 67c and IMO thats very low but acceptable for the time being. Should be going up in a year or two I think.
