    Thanks in advance.

Wow! you guys are on the ball! Ok I live about 5 miles from Ballyhaunis and 2 from Cloonfad.
I might be wrong but I don't think I would be close enough for the Ballyhaunis/Ballinlough wireless service.

wireless usually goes for 8km with clear lines ! are you down in a valley? or behind a forest?

Giv em a call and get a transmission test !!

Avoid satelite, unless last resort !!!! very messy !!

Any idea what might be available around Swinford? A couple of miles outside the town to be more exact.

Can anybody figure this out -
All my numbers fail (2 business lines & 1 domestic) when I do the test for Broadband with Eircom & IOL. My phone line comes from an eircom junction box outside my house. This also serves my next door neighbour. He has broadband and I can see his WiFi network on my laptop. Eircom do not want to help in anyway. Any ideas?

IIRC all Castlebar numbers that were 2xxxx at some point fail , does that sound like your problem ?

Many of the line failures in Castlebar are down to the fact that part of the exchange is apparently not broadband compatible. It is also possible that your 3 lines have been created out of one copper pair by the use of a pair-gain

I suggest you contact your local Eircom bod and ask Him to sort the line out for you. Locally most of the Eircom engineers are pretty helpful.

You could also collaborate with the neighbour and split a Business grade ADSL connection between you, that way you both get a better level of service over the basic offerings. Chorus have lots of nice empty ducting if you need to get an Ethernet cable between the houses or across the road :D

Are you going to the DCMNR County and Group broadband scheme event in the TF later?

I was at the meeting in Castlebar last night, with a few members of our local broadband committee. We actually handed the Regional co-ordinator our application for funding under the County and Group Broadband scheme. (See next week's Mayo News - have submitted an article and photo)

Contact the co-ordinator, Catriona McQuillan on 091 509000 ext 704 or email - cmcquillan@galwaycoco.ie. The dcmr website has lots of information too.

Have a look at the groupdatascheme.ie for information on how to set up a community network. Knockmore and Kinvara are two successful community BSIPs and we are one of quite a few in the Mayo/Galway area applying for funding using thier model and assistance.

If you want broadband in Mayo - you have to DIY!

A new wireless provider is just starting to build a network for the county - Westnet. They will soon be ready to either provide bandwidth wholesale for community groups, or be the ISP partner. I'd give you the number, but it's written in such tiny writing on thier card I can't read it! They will soon be advertising in the county anyway.

pm me if you want further information.

already tried imagine. they said they couldn't use their bracket bands on the chimneys as they're bigger than standard chimneys!
at the time they couldnt get line of sight to their transmitter in castlebar but have since started a second transmitter in ballinrobe which should be ok but they still have the chimneys to contend with so i dont think they can deliver here

Starts @ 2 mb, I have the 4 mb package. Obviously slow in the grand scheme of things but for where I am it’s still the only option. Reliable as well! They’ve got a list of options here if you’re interested: http://westnet.ie/packages/
