PLEASE VOTE IN POLL AT BOTTOM OF POST
I posted this in after hours but I suppose it's more appropriate here

    Hi,
I am trying to decide on the best sollution for searching on my website.

The search will be used to find poker events (not just tournaments) in Ireland.

Events will fall into the following categories:
Casino+Club/Online/College Societies and also a category that will have events held by a groups of friends, a community hall, a pub etc.

Option A is to have the search options as:
    all/tournaments/tournaments(casino+club)/tournaments(online)/tournaments(college societies)

This poses the problem that someone will search for tournaments thinking they are getting all tournaments in casino etc. And may think All is for all events including tournaments. All will infact be to just to search in all categories listed above after "all" option. This also poses the problem of an event not being a tournament, thus making search options void.

Option B is to have search options as:
    all/regular/casino+club/online/college societies

This poses a problem that regular is too obscure. Another word to consider instead of regular is "Misc".

Remember, not all events will be tournaments.

If you go here you will understand what I am trying to get at better. And please excuse the mess on that page. Few temporary errors.
    Any feedback appreciated.

    Regards.

    POLL

Below is the poll. I was unavle to add a poll to this thread after I started it so please click the below option you think is better. Please only click one file. The file of the option you think is better so as I will be able to determine how many times each file has been clicked. Thank you.

    Any feedback on this appreciated.

The two different choices don't change what the search is for. Option A+B choices will be searching the same criteria. Just which is more clear to the user from your point of view?
    Thanks

It's a toughy alright... personally I'd consider adding a nice self-contained area called "filter" where there are more options... like you could have a checkbox or set of radio buttons that select the game type (ie. tourney/non-tourney) etc.
Not as tidy as a single drop-down box, but if your head is wrecked it's another route to consider.

Both files are called Option B

I know which option I want to go for. In terms of people searching on an events calendar for poker events taking place in the country. If they are able to get that far, they should hopefully be able to search and distinguish between regular/online/casino+club/college events. For example, there could be a poker seminar or something similar that wouldn't fall under tournaments. Perhaps misellaneous instead of regular?

    Thanks for feedback anyway :)

Arghh! I'm such a mess

Ok, I actually came up with a word that should work!

    Independent!

    What do you think?? :)

    huh?

I was thanking you in particular for the feedback because I posted it a day or two ago and nobody replied. I wasn't saying "thanks but no thanks" I was saying "by the way, thanks":)

Don't mind me, I just felt like having some mock righteous indignation or something.
I really don't know if "independent" would make sense to me, but then I'm not much of a poker player.
It suggests the other categories are somehow sponsored or governed... I don't know... are they?
I still like my checkboxes idea :p

Checkboxes would cost more money to implement :(

Well you will be in a poker events calendar and your only search options will be all/independent/college society/casino & club/online so hopefully most users will know they are searching for events in each of the above categories. Independent events etc.
