Usually do, but i'm really not up for hearing about it all over again.

I used to get Belgian choclates, but now the shop that sold them is gone, so i dunno what i'm going to get her.

Why two? Your wife isn't your mother (Unless... ). If you have kids, get them to buy her something.

except my mother has asthma. and hay fever. eh..
lily o brien chocolates! they're good and make you well rounded, so it's even easier to clean and cook over a hot stove all day.

I got mine a massage and a facial (whatever the hell that is!) for a spa nearby. I think they all like those kinds of things so you'ld be safe enough gettin somethin like that I'd say. Besta luck and hope she/they like it/them or whatever you get her/them. :)

i know!!! That's why I was confused/scared sh*tless when the woman asked me whether I'd like a deluxe or sports! I said your choice. I just hope it's not what's on your mind. But is that a chance I'm willing to take? The receptionist in the spa WAS wearing a miniskirt. Maybe I should exchange it for something else!

As a mum I'm hoping for bunch of flowers from the [STRIKE]boyfriend[/STRIKE] baby and a home-made card. A voucher for a facial or massage would be a brilliant present.

Get a card and thats it! I think its such a stupid hallmark holiday! All over commericalised and far too much hype over the whole thing!!!!! I am just getting my mum a card!!! If your parents are any good - they wouldn't expect you to spend loads of money on them (cos they know its such a huge fuss over nothing!)

ah yes ... but when you are a mum it will be special. Aw look .. that annoying spawn does actually appriciate me. I don't think its about the cards, they are just for people who are bad with words, or who are lying! *"I love you", yeah ye do .. its just a formality* .... Its the thought of the present thats touching .... did they wreck their head to think of the present. Mossy Monk had the right idea I think. Jr.Shabadu's homemade card is dead sweet from a baby.

If your head is adeled, get some luxury. Something she would like but wouldn't buy herself cause it seems indulgent.

For anyone making a homemade card on behalf of a young child for their wife/partner a good idea is to get them to make a handprint, stick on a current picture and use the following poem:

    Sometimes you get discouraged
    Because I am so small.
    And always leave my fingerprints
    On furniture and walls.
But every day I'm growing up
And soon I'll be so tall.
That all those little hand prints
Will be so hard to recall.
So here's a special hand print
Just so that you can say
This is how my fingers looked
    When I placed them here
    On Mothers's Day (insert date!)

I still have my daughter's homemade one she made in school when she was only 6 (she's nearly 12 now). So speaking as a Mammy its definiately the thought that goes into it and not how expensive it is.

Fair point Mossy Monk! Ok then - I mean don't give in to the extensive advertising done by retailers to make you feel like you have to spend loads on your mother!

A handmade card is a lovely idea - a lot of thought!

That poem is really really sweet :)

The creche helped my baby make one of these on his birthday for me. The last line was 'when I was 1 year old'. I got a valentine's day card from him as well with a little love bug on the inside made out of his fingerprint with legs and anntenae drawn on. Get all teary and emotional when I look at them still, especially his little scratchy signature that they helped him write.

Climaxer is totally right, it means so much more to get something hand-made than something bought. It's my partners birthday next week and we're making a card together for him.

does anyone know if mothersday is on the same day in new Zealand as it is here?
I know Germany has it on a different date.

I sent my mum Money last year, with a card saying,

'this is compensation for al the crap you went through with me. Next payment due next year.
    Happy mothersday'
