Didnt know where to put this, so if its in the wrong forum, please more...

We need to get a washing machine and dryer at home and Im trying to investigate the benfeits of a combination washer/dryer (other than space)
At the moment in the kitchen we have a space for a washer under the sink so a separate dryer would not be under a counter(part of the kitchen)
but that may not bother us if we decide the two units are better than one.

can anyone give reasons for/against a washer-dryer and also will there be anything different required to hook them up?

    Cheers,
    G.

    Hi GreeBo,

My experience of washer driers is very limited, we had one a few years ago, the problem with it was if one part went down both machines were out of action.

"She who must be obeyed" has stayed with the two appliances seperate ever since the combination was past it's useful life.

I expect it's down to the end user and the space you have available.

would agree with rooferPete regarding the "one fails both fails" problem. that said an advantage of a washer/dryer over a seperate dryer is that in the W/D the waste damp air is expelled down the drain like the washer does, but in a seperate dryer you have to either put a vent into the wall to expell the moist air or have to constantly empty a reservoir.... your choice - if the dryer is in a awkward location relative to exhausting the air then you may be better going with the W/D

edit: also of course if you have a load of washing eg back from holidays or whatever and you have 2 machines you'll be able to dry one load and wash another simultaneously if you have seperates...

the disadvantages of owning a washer/dryer far out weigh the advantages.
My only experience of one was when we rented eons ago, and the unit always gave trouble.

    Problems with combined washer/dryers....
    1) The drying while washing another load issue as above
    2) Reliability, again as above
    3) For drying they tend to have a capacity of less than a full load of washing

Certainly any family members that have had them soon went back to seperates.

Also, in my experience a vented dryer is more effecient than a condenser one.

Your only disadvantage of either or ither is that before you buy any heed this warning.
Get her indoors to tell you what she wants in her own words, then install it for ten years of earhole damage, cause it will allways be your fault cause you let her do it
