Anybody know any good backup software? I have a couple of off-site standalone pc's and I need to setup weekly backups of critical files to CD.

I've had a look on the chimpernet but theres myriad of different ones all offering basically the same functionality, so I need a personal recommendation.

    Cheers

    Chris

I'd recommend using command line 7zip or bzip2 (both free) with a batch file if it's only a few critical files. You could schedule this to run at night time.

Cheers, that all looks a bit complicated for me though. Any "Mr Spoon pressed the big red button for landing" type backup software that doesn't require any intelligence whatsoever?

    :) I hear ya.

Can't offer any recommendations there I'm afraid.

    Is this Linux or Windows?

    - If it's Windows use Norton Drive Image or Norton Ghost 2003. Support backup/restore to/from CD, across the network or to/from local disk

    - If it's Linux - use Mondo. IMHO it's better (needs a little know-how) than norton and supports way more options once you feel comfortable.

I've used both successfully and without issue now (much to my dismay) and the recovery from a blank/crashed system is great

Was reviewed in the Sunday Times a while back. Continuous back up to the web while you work.

Great if you have a good connection. Haven't tried it yet, but is someone does. love to know how they get on.

Just messing about with Syncbac and it looks like it'll be ideal. I can set it up to backup the specific files I want direct to the CD and email me if theres any problem. Ideal.

Cheers for that, another problem solved.
