Why cant I just download a game and play it?

Im using a brand new dell and high speed connection and as Ive gotten bored of the excellend www.tankmania.com [brilliant multiplayer flash game] I decided to download and play another multiplayer online game.. not as easy as I thought..
Or should I say - not as easy as it should be. I feel like one has to be a computer genius to get most multiplayer games downloaded, installed, and fully functional...

Firstly not many are free... I am one of those people who refuses to pay for anything online... and would rather spend a day searching for a free alternative than pay a single quic for anything.... Maybe I would have less trouble with an expensive game, but should I have to splash out?

There are so many "free" multiplayer games out there but many of them are either trial versions, betas, or require money to be fully functional ... or to get any enjoyment out of the game without feeling like youre missing out on stuff...

Already Im down to only a handfull of games to choose from....

Ive today Ive attempted to downloaded about 30 games. About 10 of these the download didnt complete, because of the server etc... After about 10 attempts using different mirrors I still havent been able to download the full 100 MB of Gunbound....
I managed to get one game going, terra world... but that required a quicktime download which apple insisted to include fcuking itunes...! all this for a crappy 2D scroller.
Other games just given me error messages when trying to run the setup.exe,.. then others would install but then wouldnt connect to the server of simply turn my screen black......

Its really frustrating .. Does anyone know any good multiplayer online games which are simple to install and log into the server..

with tankmania.com which is a simple but brilliant free flash game, i simply go to the website and play the game... easy...

Im really browned off Ive wasted hours today.

I might just go out and buy the latest version of worms and stick with that.

I think the problem with free online games is they don't have the budget to be well designed - hence your problems. I know people who are playing World of Warcraft and love it, personally I'm thinking of City of Heros but don't know if I have the time to invest in a game right now.

TBH if you really want to play online you get what you pay for. Sorry for your troubles.
