Hi, i wonder if anyone can help me, My pc specs are below, but i basicly want o buy some ram ( Prefebly off someone here on Boards :) ) but im not sure WHAT kind of ram i need. The pc is less than 5 months old, and have just installed a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis ( Advantage Edit ) but to finish my PC upgrade off, i need 256 more ram, or 512 more, if you can install that with 1 slot as well as 256 card.

    SPECS:

    iQon Destop pc
    Windows Xp SP2 & Updates
    256mb Ram ( 1x )
70 Gig Hdd & Newest drivers
    Celeron 2.68 Mhz
Sapphire Radeon 9600 AGP Pro Atlantis 256Mb ( New )

I have tried contacting iQon support, through Phone and email, but have had no reply after 4 days. Is there a way in windows Xp i can check type?

    Thanks in advance,

    Subliminal

If its less than 5 months old, its almost definetly DDR..
as to what speed DDR id imagine, 3200 or less, either way your safe getting 3200 (DDR400) ..

theres no problem putting 512 with 256 as long as you have an empty memory slot for it.

Yeah it's probably 333MHz DDR (PC2700) ram but to be on the safe side get 400MHz DDR (PC3200)because you can be sure that the PC3200 will clock down to PC2700 but cannot be guaranteed that the PC2700 will clock up if necessary.

Though if you buy a faster speed, when you upgrade you can transfer easily, and faster speeds really don't cost that much more. Worth your while

unless you know for fact that your motherboard supports faster ram like pc3200 then dont buy it!

Sorry to latch myself on this thread but I'm looking for the same sort of advice. I want to but 1gb RAM and Dell tell me I need:

    DELL
1.0GB DDR333 Dual Channel Memory (2x512) for Dimension 4600 MMT

They want to charge €270 and I've heard that you get it cheaper if you go somewhere else (even Amazon?). I'd just get confised with al the numbers. :D

    Specs would be

    Dell 4600, 2.8Ghz, 256 RAM, 120 gig hard drive.

    Thanks for any help.

i very much doubt you need buy dell memory specifically..

im ALMOST positive that you can buy any pc2700(ddr333mhz) memory you want..
theres some cheaper options on komplett

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10527

you could also just walk into a shop and ask for the their finest Gb of ddr333 memory..

you also have to make sure you machine has 2xslots, if your going to get two 512mb bars,
theres no advantage to having two bars over one, unless you have dual channel memory slots.

    www.crucial.com/uk

    has your memory for
    512MB DDR PC2700 CL=2.5 NON-ECC UNBUFFERED £35.99 ex. VAT (ea.) £42.29 inc. VAT* (ea.)
    So 85 stg + p&p

Use the memory selector to choose your Dell 4600 specific part, so you can go for the guarantee if there's a problem (which I've not had with them).

the CL=2.5 refers to latency, lower is better, the PC3200 suggested for the same machine is CL=3, so you are probably better with the 2700, unless you need to sell this DRAM again in the near future.
