Munster coach Alan Gaffney will leave Ireland at the end of this season to take up a new post as assistant coach to Eddie Jones' Wallabies.

Speaking about the impending departure, Munster Chief Executive Garrett Fitzgerald said: "We had hoped that Alan would extend his contract with us for a further period.

"His three years here has been hugely beneficial and we do of course regret losing a coach of his ability, one who has served Munster rugby so well.

"However we fully understand his decision to accept the offer from the Australian Rugby Union. It is a tremendous honour for him and we wish him the very best of luck in his new role".
Gaffney admitted: "It was tough. These are a great bunch of guys. I have had three marvellous years with Munster and enjoyed every minute.

"Munster have been good for me and for my family. I have had a very good working relationship with all concerned, particularly Garrett Fitzgerald (CEO) and Jerry Holland".

Connacht coach Michael Bradley will be odds-on to become the new Munster head coach.

He's gone - any chance Bradley would defect to Munster
    Or bring Back Kidney?
Or Wood and Claw or Galway?

Ya i know that - i really dont think he could come back. He is doin very well with ye, but he was given an option after he left the Irish job. Leinster Coach in Dublin or an Irish Development officer for all Underage and senior/junior squads in Ireland, based in Cork .

They reportedly the IRFUmade up the postion to keep him from going abroad but then he took the Leinster job.

have no quams with that at all - if he gets ye to the HC i'd reckon wild hoses wouldnt drag him away but if ye dont he might leave. Would be some blow for the Team and Province,he is one of the best coaches we have in Ireland

No smilies or anything Daveirl but I assume you're joking. The Munster branch would be bankrupt in 6 months paying for backroom staff alone leaving aside the bodyguard fees

In that way he's typical manager - disliked but respected. Never thought about it, but that would be an interesting appointment.
