Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Any advice would be very much appreciated.... :)

Check out the Canon 300D with the kit lens for a good deal. It's a superb SLR camera. For that amount, its the best you can get.

I second that. But can you get one that cheap here?

Not in Ireland, but there are many places on the net that sell them at that price, especially now that the new 350D is coming out. Try Ebay aswell, I got mine there.

had a quick look on amazon and it's over £600.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000C9VZN/qid=1109694575/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/202-6052207-1221459

Thing is i need proper receipts and stuff to claim it out of the project's expenses account, so that probably rules out getting it 2nd hand

Can you get it VAT exempt?

That 350D looks pretty good.I sepecially like the 14 frame continous vs the 4 in the 300D.

    RuggieBear, try here http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_4_409_40901&products_id=91362

I've bought from them before with no problems. But still, you should be able to get it cheaper from Ebay, new, not used. I got mine a few months before xmas for €700 (new), it has probably come down in price now.

Yeah the D70 is a good camera. It's down to the same price as the 300D now too.

    Have a look at www.dpreview.com and www.dcresource.com.

These two sites have plenty of detailed reviews on all the leading cameras out at the moment. There really isn't a killer camera available at the minute, each camera seems to have pros or cons unless you're willing to fork out a few grand for a digital SLR. I'd suggest having a poke around those sites and try and find a camera that suits your needs. For instance if you aren't going to be taking any shots at a distance these no need to buy a camera with an optical lense above 3x and so on. Also those sites contain some good forums.

One thing about SLR's, you have to learn them. Any monkey can shoot with a point and shoot camera but the SLR's have a learning curve. But it will make you a better photog in the long term (just my humble opinion).

True qwertz, but you can still point and shoot with them and get good results.

Also true :) We should all organize some photo-shooting-outing sometime. That might be fun.

What exactly are you going to be doing with the camera? Do you need a zoom? Are you going to be doing a lot of post processing on the pictures? Will you mainly be taking shots outside or inside?

TBH I'm not too sure. Mainly out in the field but again she's the boss and just told me to find a decent camera for €700!!!! :D

Well one thing I'd say is make sure you take into account the cost of extra memory and maybe a second battery for any camera you buy.

I'd suggest reading the reviews of the following cameras and then try and decide which one suits your needs the best. Maybe ask the boss if there's any feature or ability that she particularly wants in the camera.

Anyway some cameras that I've seen which might be worth looking at which are under 700 euro. I'd suggest reading the reviews you find for these and then if there's no clear winner just go and buy the cheapest one. I really don't think there's a camera out there that beats everything else. Try and figure out what you need and there should be a camera around that best suits those needs.

    Panasonic DMC FZ-3/FZ20
    Nikon COOLPIX 5700
    Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200
    Olympus E-20
    Canon PowerShot G6
