scandisk broke my pc

I got a laptop recently and installed windows xp pro. Everything was working fine until I decided to run a scan disk.

It checked the disk and didn't report any errors. But afterwards it wouldn't boot. It got to the screen saying scandisk finished but then stopped.

I tried a hard reboot and it went into scandisk again. I let it run through and it didn't report any errors but still wouldn't boot.

I've tried to stop scandisk before it starts but it won't get past the scandisk finished screen.

I also tried to boot into safe mode. It will load the drivers and then stop.

Is there anything I can do without reinstalling windows? And has this happened to anyone else.

    Spec is
    Compaq presario 721uk
    Amd duron 1.2
128 ram (A bit low on ram but it didn't have any problems with this before)
    20gb hard drive

    Win xp pro

Try booting the pc in "last known good configuration"?

I was able to boot into last know good configuration (I should have thought of this myself)

The only difference between what I had on the good config and what I have now (and had at crash) is the video card driver which I got from the compaq site.

The pc is running ok but I haven't tried to run another scandisk

Has this happened to anyone else? Or why would it happen, scandisk didn't report any errors on disk.

Uninstall the graphics card drivers you just installed, re-install the old ones and see if the resolves your problems.
