As the title reads I'm looking to get a new guitar. I have a fender squire at the moment. I want to get a 7-string. I like the more angular design guitars, something like the style James Hetfield uses in the I Disappear video, anyone got any ideas? and within a sane price range I don't want to be spending more then a couple of weeks wages or anything

Well, you could get http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw6_bcrich_warlock_platinum_7_prodinfo.html but I really recommend you talk to Nemesis. His BC Rich is absolutely gorgeous and far better than the one in the link imo.

Let it go cheap enough too.. basically..it's that time in every guitar players life when they gotta buy a Les Paul Custom (as a back up obviously)
    ;)

There's a guitar make called Shine which a shop in Arklow has started selling recently. I nabbed a catalogue from there. And there's a really nice Seven string guitar in there. Do a google for Shine guitars. See what you can find.

As the resident BC Rich fan, I have to give my thumbs up for both the 7 string Warlock, and Nemesis' Mockingbird. Both a huge step up if from the Fender Squier.

Steer well clear! I played one and... the squier you have is better... Theyre really cheap Ibanez rip-offs, and that shop in Arklow has more fishing stuff than guitarsbiggrin.gif. I bought a zoom 505 in that shop a few years ago and I'll never buy anything there again! They had some good used amps the last time (a year ago!) i was there!

Is there any good used stuff in there now Oeneus?

Get an Ibanez RG7321. I own one and it's fantabulous. Although it's the typical Ibanez shape, it's an excellent 7-string.

I imagine it should be a great guitar. I own a few BC Riches myself, and I've nothing but good things to say about them. As long as you steer clear of the Bronze series guitars, which is the basic beginner plywood guiter, a BC Rich is a great guitar.

As for Line6... I've not much experience with line6 in general, but bar practice amps like the microcube, I'm not too much of a fan of digital modelling amps. But that's just me.

amp wise i'm looking at around 100 watts. i heard line6 and marshall are good, i know some of the mightn't have exactly 100 watts but some close to it 75 to 150 or something like that. any ideas?

Don't get caught up with the wattage of the amp, as I've a lovely new Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 combo, and the sheer level of volume that comes out it even at lower setting would probably kill a herd of cows, not to mention blow away other amps with a higher wattage rating.

Are you just going to be practicing, or playing live? I'd say go for this fellow if it's a practice amp you're after, or if that's a bit out of your price range, this little beauty is what I use, and I thoroughly recommend it for jamming about the house. If you want something for live use, this should be more than enough, unless you're playing the Point anytime soon. If that ENGL's a bit much of a wallet-killer pricetag, or you're apprehensive about tube amps, then this Marshall should do the job no problem. And if you want to go all-out you could get this mother****er right here alongside one of these, but somehow I doubt that.

    Anyway, hope that helps.

    I have a Marshall MG100dfx for sale

Line 6 Spider whips Mg**dfx's ass

Spiders are ****e, get a flextone at least if youre going that direction. Personally I prefer a good solid amp, two channels with no bells and whistles.

ENGL thunder 50 combo will be mine... soon... very soon...

  • well the spider's a better amp than the MG's imo, that was all i was saying, not that they're the best. He was asking for advice on what to get.

Yes, it's very good, and it's as loud as you could want for playing at home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Thats only 15 watts, it will distort easily if its loudness you're after... You could just buy my amp for less than that price and its 100 watts of loudness. I bet its more portable than the ministack too.

Don't forget peons, double the wattage does not mean double the volume. A 100W amp is only twice as loud as a 10W amp. There is no gig in this country that will require more than 50W in my opinion. I've a 100W 2x12 Fender and it's actually too loud to use to practice. Although the 2 12" speakers rumble the floor :D

Didnt know you had a Fender amp feylya....tell me tell me tell me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

And don't forget that a good tube amp is about three times as loud as an equivalent wattage solid state amp. As Feylya said, 50W is more than enough. I've a Fender 70W 1x12" that has never been past 3. Too damn loud.

Have to agree with the man here - I've got a cube too and they're the best little things ever for just practicing. The aux input and effects are all very nice indeed.

Ah, it's only a Fender FM212R 100W 2x12". Only ever use the clean channel to make the ME-50 loud. Should rebrand it the "Fender Loudener" cos it is oh so very loud :)

As long as it's not a vintage Vibroverb you are safe :)

Vintage? Bleh, what do I want with vintage stuff. Midi all the way baby :D

Wouldn't mind a Soldano amp and a McCoy Wah tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Yeah, the McCoy sounds sweeet. I've never seen one here though.

I'm only going on reputation. Wouldn't mind a few Keeley pedals either.
