    Hi,
I'm on my first month of Eircom BB and I've been downloading a lot of updates and the likes.

    My account download status says

    12081 MB -> 147% of 8192 MB

Will I get charged for the additional downloads?
Does a cap not mean it will stop downloading if you reach your limit?
    Thanks!
    M

no a cap means you've got to stay within your limit that is set to you.

i don't know if eircom will charge you but i hope they do.

Lots of talk of this on the Broadband forum lately, but it seems that Eirocm don't charge for going over the limit. However, they are perfectly within their rights to do so and at any time, even backdating the charges so I wouldn't push my luck if I were you. Also, persistant offenders may have their connection terminated permenatlyif Eircom feel like it.

The new month starts tomorrow anyway so I'd just keep an eye on it in future if I were you. There's also talk of Eircom increasing their caps soon so you may not have to worry about this for much longer.

    Thanks Jor El.
I'll bear all that in mind.
Shouldn't have such a large amount next month as I had a lot of windows Update rubbish to run. (and I had to do that twice because the Netopia router messed up and required me to install windows again!)
    Cheers

the reason why i said i hope they charge him is because he entered a contract with eircom with conditions stating that there is a download cap and anything over that cap is charged at such and such a rate per megabyte.

now don't get me wrong i hate caps i really do, but you sign up for the service you're meant to read the T&C's are you're meant to abide to them.

So many posts about this. Eircom have recently upgraded servers so they have the capability of charging people for going over the cap.

I do too hope you get charged :)

they dont know how to use their caps so they like to whinge about people who do know how to use them on the basis that eircom says so.

if i was on capped broadband i'd be using it to the full potential ie. if with eircom i'm gonna get my 55 euros worth or whatever the price is.

i wouldn't want to pay any extra to the blood sucking corporation,

maybe i was a tad bit harsh, but if they don't charge you don't take it that they'll never will if you know what i mean.
