THE FAI will today announce a lucrative new television deal with RTE, TG4 and Setanta Sports to cover the eircom League and FAI Carlsberg Cup, writes Owen Cowzer.

As exclusively revealed by the Irish Independent on Tuesday, the three broadcasters will cover at least 30 matches per season between them, the majority live.

In addition, TV3 will continue to produce a weekly round-up show.

While the duration and value of the deals has been kept secret, it is known that it will allow the FAI to offer a substantial increase in prize funds to the eircom League.

The press release will be later today. Good to see 30 matches or so will be live but the TV3 weekly round up is a little short. They should produce an hourly programme on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

No doubt the extra prize money will come in handy for Shels :P FORZA SHELS :)
