Hmm, I was building a system for my bro a few weeks ago and it mentioned something about the audio headers connected to the front panel of the PC disable the ones at the back.
If I were you, I'd have a read of the motherboard manual where it talks about connecting onboard audio to the front panel... you might have to do some wire-plugging-out on the inside of the machine.

I assume this front headphone socket you speak of is a proper sound output and not the headphone socket on your CD drive(s)!!

There are other things you could look at aswell, windows settings and what not, maybe updating your sound/chipset drivers... your nForce drivers should have come with a little system tray app called "nV Mixer" that has a speaker setup wizzard.
Also, are these speakers 5.1 surround? or just stereo?

there might be a jumper at the north east (next to the com connectors) section of the MOBO to set EITHER front or back audio output. i havent seen it in any asus mobo, but its comon on asrock and older gigabyte.
    hope this helps

    Thanks

Yeah it disabled the ports in the back, i unplugged it and now it works.

In order for me to connect the front as well is that the front panel connector came with many single conectors so I could connect the headphones on the front.

Again thanks for the help much appreciated.
