Knowing Dell you'll probably find that there's a 100 Euro delivery charge on top or there's a "Ryanair" type of extra that will bring the price back up to what it was originally!

find out what brand they re-badge

Just gave out to someone in DELL sales who explained that the offer was until the 28th feb or while stocks last.
I asked her did she mean that DELL had completely sold out of monitors, so she put me on hold while she spoke to her supervisor.
She then came back and said she could do me a 10% discount so I said I wasn't interested so off she trotted back to supervisor who agreed to the 20% discount (NOTE...IT WAS ALWAYS A 20% DISCOUNT, NEVER 40%).

or they were mistaken - said that 545 (inc postage, vat, 3yrs pixel garantee, and dvi cable) was the 20% off price - they told it had been 40% off earlier this week. thats where I got the 40% figure.
but whatever the % - it was 437.05 now 545.
but looks like price now is normal price and was only 20% off. Still wasnt bad price for a nice monitor.

ps. jes.de are selling 8ms monitors for 440.

Thanks - had them checked out already - good stuff there - almost bought an 8ms Belkin monitor - supposed to be great - but I'm very picky about the display quality. Two laptops I've had before - the lcd display was really naff washy colours. Its hard to tell from reviews what they actually look like in real life - I've used the dells.

Rang Dell up again - someone else - told them i saw an advert for the monitor. He asked me what price I saw it at. Then he took another 5 euros off.

    1905FP €432 including delivery, dvi cable + 3yrs garantee.

Good price - Ordered it :)

I ordered one from jes. 19 inch 16ms. got 4-5 star reviews everywhere for 350 inc delivery. Dell monitors ( specially LCD ) dont have a great reputation..

The actual price of the dell 19" lcd during the sale was a €402; 20% off pre VAT price and a further €36 off for buying something worth €300 or more.
I was sorely tempted but I've just splashed out on a laptop from them meaning I'll be using my desktop a lot less...

personaly i dont like BenQ monitors, but that monitor is a bit pricey anyway
try this one its about £50 cheaper

Its cheaper for a reason: Slower response time and lower contrast ratio. Also, who the hell are tatung?

I'm using the Benq 19" FP937s bought through Jes, apart from waiting a couple of weeks while they restocked I've found Jes fine and the Benq excellent.

Really has impressed amd the price at the time was about €460 so thats cheaper than the Dell re-brand.

its an 6-bit monitor (65,000 colours dithered to make more) :(
dells and full price others are true 8 bits (16.7 M colours).
Look out for 16.2M colours or "Up to 16.xM colours" in specs - these are
    the dithered monitors.

    Can you check out http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2289&p=16

Can you tell us what does the big blue test square there looks like on the FP937s?
I'd be interested to see if there was really a difference as they do look like good value.

    ozmo.

actually - examining their test - its pants - its was prob a good test - but they broke it by saving it as a gif (256 colours) so everyone will see it as dithered.

edit- attached best I can make. to me (currently on a crt) this looks really smooth.

My advantage is that I'm not using the monitor for gaming or heavy graphics work. So I can see your point, however I'll stand by the original comment.

In my experience about technology as soon as you buy a true 8 bit monitor someone will follow the post with their opinion on the great 16 bit one they are buying.

I'm now calling this the Sisyphus effect

If you need the 16.7m colours http://www.benq.co.uk/Products/LCD/index.cfm?product=506&page=specifications
    Its €429 excluding delivery

Im thinking about getting a LG L1730P from http://www.technoworld.com I think it works out about €360 including VAT at 21%.

Anyone used this retailer? What would it cost to buy it in sterling?

TomCo don't know the retailer but use www.xe.com for the conversion its usually close enough.

My Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP 19" from this thread is currently winging its way back to Dell today. What a piece of junk - dont buy it - even at the now even lower price of 380 euros.
OK until something moves - like scrolling a webpage - Totally excessive ghosting on all FPS. The older 1902FP I had use of was much better... now I have to look for a replacment...

I got an acer al1914 from amazon and I'm very pleased with it .... no ghosting in evidence and no dead pixels ... I'm in the uk now and it cost €322 including p&p..... probably €20 more for p&p to Ireland .... downside is it is only d-sub, but for most people dvi doesnt make much of a difference so I'm not bothered

Whats the Response time of 20ms should have been ok. Must have been a faulty one. Got a good review here. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2332&p=10 But then you could be just very sensitive to the response time. Some people even have a problem with 16ms. Maybe you should go back to a CRT.

hmm - I borrowed a Dell 1902FP and before that a 17" Dell lcd & it was acceptable.

on 1905FP Black to white may be 20ms (doubt it) but I used PixPerAn (Version 1.011e) to bench this monotor at grey to grey of 85ms.

What you get is a crazy 5 frames visible at once in Counterstrike - I wouldnt have believed it could be so bad had i not tried it.

I asked Dell for a replacment - Dell were very quick, and replacment was the same. Numerous reports of Ghosting on this model are mentioned in the Dell US forums.

I've tried to capture what it looks like in these videos - taken with a video camera on a tripod. What you see in real life is much worse - at least 5 frames visible, fading and trailing behind when you move in CSS. It makes you very sick very quick on a high contrast map or playing HalfLife2. A darker game, Painkiller was ok, funny that.

Anyway back to my trusty Dell Trinitron till I find a better lcd.
