I don't want to sound like a broken record lads, but we need some notice of this Intervarsity if you're even going to have one.

Yez wouldn't have it on the 19th by any chance would yez? Its two weeks after Galway and not so late that it starts to interfere with exams. I know some people's exams start at the beginning of April.

Yeah sorry for the heel dragging on this one, still waiting for a reply from the admins regarding hall availability. When I know, you'll know.

What about cutting our loses and cancelling the whole thing. I mean at this rate it'll be on sometime next september anyway.

it just isn't orgainised yet, no need to go as far as to cancel it, also nothing is ready for end of year prizes or anything.

it can be on as late as around the first week of april (sat 2nd, or even the 9th). After that exams start for various colleges. thats 4 weeks, plenty of time. be patient

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

It may be disturbing, but it has been earned. Don't forget one of those weeks is Easter Saturday so I doubt colleges will be open(??). Personally, my exams start on the 5th of April and I know other people have exams close to that time. You can see my problem here.

Its not my place to lecture on the matter anyways. What I would say is that if you don't have a date for the week after Easter (or there abouts), a lot of people have a lot of deadlines, exams, etc and won't be able to go. That undermines the competition to some extent and to that end, you should at least consider cancellation.
Of course if you get a date a bit closer (say 2 weeks), all is forgiven...

Glad you finally realised it. Im one of those people with deadlines. Im going to say this once again, and hopefully this time you will listen, you self important little weasel. IF I DONT HAVE A DATE OFF THE SPORTS ADMIN I CANT TELL YOU, CAN I?

Oh, gee thanks, that makes me feel a *whole* lot better, I'll sleep well tonight knowing I have *your* forgiveness.

Also note that 9/10 April is Hans Blum's training. Venue for it is not known yet, but I suppose that having two events in Limerick and at the same weekend is too much to ask. The other (good?) thing is that there are no more archery events at that time.

As for exams, it will not be possible to set such a date that suits everybody. For me, terms in Ireland look really short. 5 months a year? And also with some breaks between (like 3 weeks around Easter in UCD)? In Russia, each year I had 8 months of term study + 2 months of exams, and left with only 2 months of holidays in July/August.

Ewan, as the chairman of ISAA, can you bug all colleges to get dates for next year IVs in advance? Including UL, so that we do not bug you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 486 ✭✭Aryzel

no need to get hostile people, when UL have it organised we'll know. Remember previous years a week or two notice was a lot. things have been better organised this year so ye might have got too used to knowing things futher in advanced :D

Mikhail, i did that a few years ago, college terms in the various colleges range from start of sept to end of june (almost all colleges have 24 weeks of lectures). However the only periods of time all the colleges are available for intervarsiites are:

End of October to 1st week of December
Last week of January to 1st week of April

All other times there are exams on, some colleges do be on holidays/mid-term during those periods but that shouldn't stop them coming to an intervarsity.

So realisticaly there are only 5 weekends before christmas and 10 weekends after christmas for intervarsities. Ideally we should have two in November, two in Feburary and two in March.

Aryzel, of course, you did it. So you found long ago that it is not realistic to please everybody and possible dates are there. What I mean is to use this information and get IV dates (book halls, etc) in advance. Much like DCU booked theirs together with Dublin Archers FITA (next FITA shoot is already set for Nov 6, so I assume that DCU IV is Nov 5). Or, GMIT teams with Nationals. Similarly, Dun Laoghaire club books hall in UCD for Irish Open a year in advance.

It will help with IAAA calendar as well. For example, UCD IV clashed with IAAA shoot in Tralee and another schools shoot, and both judges with some experience (Tony and Gerry) were busy.

:) I was saying to myself that I'm not getting into arguments here anymore, and still find myself typing long messages.

So UL IV will be held sometime in March/April, no matter whatever the date is and whoever has problems with it. But for next year everybody will try to get it better.

sorry mikhail i read though your message too fast and misunderstood it, thought you were asking for the ranges of dates for intervarsities.

organisation has been getting better each year, can't ask much more than that.

If you want long messages look at the update to the rules i just put up :D
suggestions and corrections on them is welcome

Theres nothing like a good argument to get something done all the same ;)

I agree with you MicS, I've been requesting the final date for some shoots since before Chrismas so we could get them up on the IAAA calender and then we could avoid clashes with things like coaching etc.

Oh btw, Dublin Archers have the 6th of November arranged for the FITA 18 already, but DCU haven't confirmed yet. We're hoping that by booking that Sunday, DCU will choose to have their IV that weekend too.

I suppose we have been a bit spoiled this year with planning etc but things are so much easier that way

Traditionally, DCU Archery Club and Dublin Archers hold their intervarsities together, but we (DCU) havent gotten word from them about it yet. This is the first that we've heard about it. We weren't sure if Dublin Archers were going to hold the FITA shoot in conjunction with us. If you guys want to get in touch, just send us an E-mail. (archery@redbrick.dcu.ie). Most of you peobably know Podge, and can get in touch with him, but we've had a bit of a committee reshuffle and podge isn't around too often, so we can't guarantee that we'll get any message you give him. So your best bet is to e-mail us.

Jack, new secretary of DCU Archery club.
