just thought bargain hunters might find these sites handy for finding cheap stuff online

    www.kelkoo.co.uk
    www.pricerunner.co.uk
    www.froogle.co.uk

Kelkoo is the most well known but pricerunner is just as good i find
froogle is by google and is stillin beta but i reckon will come on great in time
normally a combinatioon of these 3 sites helps me find the cheapest price

If you check for dvd's on Kelkoo, alot of time you will get discounts for some of the affiliates,

this is the case for cdwow/The hut etc - if you use the affiliate link for the offer it shows you, you'll get between 50p -£1.00 off depending on the price! Handy for cdwow now the £1.00 off couchers seem to by dying off!

Don't suppose they show/include shipping to ROI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,179 ✭✭✭samo

I know Kelkoo doesnt show if shipping free/able to Ireland (and havent tried the other!)

Most dvd retailers on the likes of www.find-dvd.co.uk and www.kelkoo.co.uk DO ship to ROI free of charges, only ones I know that charge are select/choices/dvd.co.uk....most of the other major ones are free :)

Look, every site have the cost of P & P factored into the price of a particular product. Its not exclusive to Play.com.

When you go through the process of buying from them their web site states that P & P is free so if you have a problem with that then take it up with them and dont misquote me.

I note that people are putting up sites that aren't comparison sites. I was hoping this thread would be exclusively for Price comparison sites:confused:

Most of the price comparison sites are already listed in the charter & resources thread which is stickied.

Maybe one of the mods may be able to pick anything extra out of here and add it to the stickied thread.

Will throw my own site into the mix:

    www.cataloguecompare.com

Allows you to compare Argos UK v. IE pricing for an item by simply entering in the catalogue number for the item.

I Find the book depository to be one of the online bookstores around. They usually beat amazons price and show it on their site.

    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/WEBSITE/WWW/WEBPAGES/homepage.php

I had to stop clicking the 'watch people shop' link though cause I started finding it addictive. Sad I know.

I normally don't post when I can't confirm something but figured someone else might have the details to back it up...

I recently read that there's a push for Irish online retailers to provide a list of their prices for the purposes of a price comparison site. It might have been something linked with Tesco's price "reductions" and transparency etc.

    It is what it's.

Yes, the National Consumer Agency are in making a grocery database containing price information which you could use to make comparisons on the cost of goods. I think tesco were saying they were willing to participate.

Re: transparancy, I wonder how many of the price comparison sites are genuine, from what I heard they all get kick backs to display certain companies at the top.

Was talking about this with a few people last night, whats the point of such a site, when the supermarkets have so many "loss leaders" to get ya into the shop. I'd be pretty sure that they all more or less average out to be the same price. I very much doubt they will go along with the NCA plan also, as they will claim the pricing is commercially sensitive information.

Apparently the supermarkets are very busy checking each others prices on a daily basis, i.e. sending their people around to the competition to check prices.

In a time of deflation and loads of people losing jobs, prices will fall, and fall very very fast over the rest of the year.

The NCA's plan could best be described using the following words, re-arrange them to get the meaning..."door the after bolted has horse the closing". This should have been done years ago when we were getting screwed by every supermarket. The NCA are now busy trying to justify their existence after the bord snip report, which is interesting because I have NEVER seen them stand up for the consumer before.

Well ye your right because in the latest figures of same goods, i think their was only 1 euro in the difference between tesco and dunnes! It varied slightly then with selecting branded and nonbranded goods. Supervalu came out very good on one of the results. Think superquinn was about €15 more. Despite the price comparing/matching going on a site to compare all the big stores would be helpful i think.

Ok, the new Catalogue Compare site has gone live.

From initial comparisons, it looks as though IKEA Ireland is quite competitively priced against the UK especially when you strip away VAT from both prices.

Not all items exist in both UK and Ireland product sets but the site will let you know if it can't perform a comparison.

    Enjoy,

Not sure why anyone would want one comparing prices on the Irish market, unless you were completely set on buying Irish. In which case price shouldn't be much of an issue. I have found that 99 times out 100 the Irish retailer is more expensive than somewhere else.

Have used this hotel price comparison site for recent hotel bookings http://www.travels.ie/

I was surprised at difference in room prices depending on who you book with for the same room type. It may save some boardsies a few bob.
