Satellite photos of Ireland (?)

I don't know if you guys remember the IOL map search site, but you could click through different areas of a map of Dublin and zoom right down to some pretty good satellite photos of the area... I remember we all had good fun finding our houses :D
This service is a long time gone, but the question is... where are these images now?
How did the IOL crowd get them and why can't I find them anywhere, surely they can't have just vanished :(
I'd say someone has the rights to these images and is holding on to them... which is a pisser for the rest of us.

Does anyone know of a decent (free) source for images like this?

I've seen sites where you can order sat images of certain areas, but I wouldn't be bothered paying for something that I've only a passing interest in.
Google has turned up mostly useless zoomed-out pics of Ireland... I miss interactive2.iol :(

Info, gripes, general banter/'anything you'd like to bring to the party' welcome.

I could be wrong with this because my work BB won't allow javascript windows, but as far i know, myhome.ie uses the same maps and pictures that were on IOL. If it is the case you could use myhome in a roundabout way to get your pics.

yeah delly's right, if you use myhome.ie you can zoom in to satellite imagery of certain parts of the country-usually built up areas. it is run by mapflow, which were responsible for the imagery used on iol, but it was only a promo freebie, now they charge for it. but as was said, myhome.ie will do it for ya
