which dell axim do you have and is it integrated GPRS or are you connecting to a mobile phone via bluetooth to establish the GPRS connection?

I'm interested because i couldn't find a dell axim with builting GPRS.

one doesnt need gprs. u connect a bluetooth gps sensor needs clear view of sky (150euro) to it, load on the maps, and voila . id say its pretty good but no substitute for a proper in car system having used both. the incar blaupunkt travelpilot is very very good, but each country is 100 euros whereas as viamichelins software is 200 euro for all of europe.

i looked into Tom TOm 3 just last weekend and found the maps for Ireland to be very poor indeed. I went for CoPilot 5 PocketPC.
    Specs are as follows
All the 'M' roads are covered. (Motorways)
All the 'N' roads are covered (National)
All the 'R' roads are covered (Rural) These are like roads going across country linking villages and towns to each other.

The M and N roads are pretty well signposted, so you shouldn't really get lost. But R roads are completely different. There aren't that many roadsigns for these and there are loads of roads going everywhere. I personally think that having all the R roads on the GPS is a godsend.

The areas that are covered down to Street Level are:

    Dublin
    Dun Laoghaire
    Bray
    Greystones
    Waterford
    Cork
    Limerick
    Galway

again mapsonic uses the same maps as the above, however the newer motorways are not mapped unfortunately.

I am using a dell axim5 with haicom dashboard wired gps, and Tom tom 3 software. easy peesie to work, nice detail too on the National roads, but no other roads, my home town with my 18000 neighbours and my self are invisible.

looking in the Copilot5 software only , costs about 130stg

the dell with gps and software cost me £240stg off ebay

Navteq are the map suppliers for Copilot if i recall. Just got my copilot live 5 and brilliant thus far. all raod detail for dublin is fantastic to street level. although the change to stpehens green one way has not been mapped correctly, also my home town of Ashbourne is named Killegland, the old name for ashbourne from 1820, little bit out of date.

I got Copilot Live 5 pocket PC, plus Rikaline GPS reciever, pda window mount, lighter charger for pda and reciever for 180STG from PDAMODS.COM

    deliverd on time also.

if you need any more information on maps/software etc check out www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk
Not all companies use the same maps, some are beter than others, Copilot for me has the best detail for Ireland with all that is listed above, i go to Achill island alot and it even maps to there with ease.

Are you sure about this? I am running AutoRoute with 2004 NAVTEQ data and Ashbourne is called Ashbourne on my map.
Either way, you can let them know here

Got autor route 2005, maps for outside of dublin have gotten worse in detail since 2002 edition I had. No route planning for pda either, cant export from pc to pda. It's very basic, but for 60e covers laptop/pda and ms smartfones so not so bad.

after looking at the saga of missing roads and towns with autoroute 2005 i looked into using the 2005 version of pocketstreets with my older version of autoroute 2002 and all is fine, the gps is ok and the roads and towns are back :)

I have tomtom 3 and its maps are way out of date .... I drive around london and it a pain in the ass sometimes ... the councils went mental a few years ago modifying streets to speed up traffic (making streets one way, disallowing right turns in a lot of places, blocking streets at one end for pedestrian safety etc) and so several times I've had tomtom tell me to "make a u-turn" ... once even on the m25 (wanted me to exit motorway on a works-only exit and shít the bed when i didnt) ...

I am seriously thinking about copilot now ....

Yeh but there is no navigation functionality with Pocket Streets?
