Anyone know of such a thing? Been noticing the bottom of lappy hotter than usual the last few days and wanna make sure the fans aren't fubared and my cpu doesn't cook.

Trouble is, I've gone looking for monitoring s/w and it all seems to be for desktops. I've tried installing a few of em and I get errors on install, or incompatibility warnings. Google isn't helping either.
    So does it exist?

check for spyware/viruses or some dodgy running processes that are maxing out the cpu. press control+alt+delete and check the current cpu use.

Thx but already done...no excessive cpu usage or heavy app use either. I've just heard some bad things about dells and their fans and I've yet to hear the fan kick on...
Having said that the room is pretty cold and I've been running on AC...but I'd still oike a temp monitor if such is available...

    not sure if there is.
be more worried about the battery if i was you.
my lappy used to run hot around the battery.

now its cool as a whistle , but wont charge at all, so its immobile. :/

Yeah I was giving that some thought, but unfortunately with battery out the screen will overbalance it, and I don't have the dummy battery thing to compensate...

Sure, only new. I've pulled power cord and it seems to be cooling.
Don't get me wrong; fans are running, but isn't there like an extra fan that will click on when the heat goes way up? Or am I analogising too much with car engines...

make sure its raised from the surface, ie not on a duvet/on ur knee/on the couch etc. ideally should be on a table

What brand/model lappie is it / XP?.
My old Toshiba was doing the same thing for about the last week or so,
fan would come on and laptop heat up underneath for no apparent reason.
Disconnect mains and it returned to normal on battery.
Last night and tonight, it's ok. Wierd.
The only software ones I've seen are for the MAC, apparently giving an esimate of the die temp on the cpu. Anyone else seen anything?

if it is a dell inspiron you can use I8kFangui.
With this program you can view the cpu temp and fan speed .
You can also take control over the fan speed if you so wished.
you can download it from here http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/

its not a desktop pentium by any chance is it? they run quite hot. u can always enable a powersave mode while pluged in which will reduce the cpu power, keeping it cooler.
good advice to keep it on a flat surface. they overheat quickly if on a duvet/ lap etc.
