for those who don't know who this 'tard is:
Trip Hawkins is the founder of the largest publisher, Electronic Arts. He even came up with the popular Madden series. He also found 3DO

    further down the interview

What do you think about Nintendo's future? People have commented that they should focus only on portable systems in the future.
My magic eight ball says they will be acquired by Microsoft within five years.

    spa :D

haha i thought it was a joke with a name like "trip hawkins"! its kinda like an intergalactic physicist who travels the galaxy searhing for adventures that result in kiddies learning their maths!

Personally in five years time i reckon we should get his email address and spam mail "HA" with a copy of this article to him!

If you were around gaming during the SNES/MegaDrive days, you should know this guy!! he's responsible for the 3DO FFS!

I reckon he's just looking for some cheap publicity for his new dev-house...

but in that pic you can just imagine him going:

"no, no, it's not a pyramid scheme; this scheme is based on the trapezoid"

I've been a gamer since the atari 2600! I blinked and missed the 3DO pretty much (altho our business teacher in 4th year had one. brought it in to show us her vcd's and everything!)

Wow the 3do was such a roaring success i reckon nintendo have already heeded this mans words of wisdom and sold up shop to M$. I mean after all, night trap on the 3do was the defining, high water mark of video games.

I make it a general rule in life not to listen to the advice or predictions of a man with a verb for a name.

so did pretty much the WHOLE world... IIRC it was the first major console to be released from a complete newcomer to the games industry.

it's joypad was a remote control with an anlogue-yish stick.

it was also the first CD-only based system, or was it VCD??

I think it died around the same time as Laserdiscs!! :D

I think I will take this opportunity to drag from the muddy depths of peoples memories the philips CD-i. Begone with ye to the fires of console hell along with your interactive movie rubbish!

    that's the one!!!!!

I was confused before, the remote-control jobby was for the CD-i, NOT the 3DO, both were failures of the highest order though!!

A friend had a CD-i back in the day. He had 1 game - tennis - for it, and some edutainment ****e about the smithsonian museum.

    *shudder*

None of our PC's had cd-roms at that stage though!

Wasn't the CD-i the one with the heinously bad Zelda games?

Was the cd-i a philips venture? I remember going into power city as a kid and playing some awful piece of crap console by philips.

What was wrong with the 3do?

Best version of road rash, return fire to name 2 of its 11 games.

I liked it also had a decent version of fifa on it.

And all way before the PS2, too.
I'll not have anyone badmouthing the 3DO. Anyone talking trash about it clearly never played one for very long. And that's their loss.

3 of them  and Mario Hotel

Nintendo used to be a very socialist/naive style company! to their credit they almost fostered competion and any ways to expand the videogame market, they were the ones that perfected Sony's videgame hardware technology!

after the CD-i, Nintendo and Sony were going to release the SNES-CD or something!

after the CD-i, Nintendo and Sony were going to release the SNES-CD or something!

And after pissing Sony off by changing to philips for the CD add-on, Sony went ahead and made the the CD add on a standalone system. You may have heard of it, its called the Playstation or something like that. Interestingly enough the Playstation contains a chipset very similar to the SNES and is meant to be really easy to convert SNES games to it.
3 of them and Mario Hotel

The 3rd one isn't meant to be that bad. the first and second however deserve their place as two of the worst games ever. The only game I've seen with worse animation than Wand of gamelon, or whatever, is the disgraceful 3 Dirty Dwarves on the Saturn.
