    Hi

Is there a full proof way when burning a dvd to prevent sound going out of synch

Have the file on pc and it works ok but when I burn it using Nerovision express it starts off ok and then goes into a bad dubbed version

Is the problem with Nero the DVD disc or the burner ?

Have burned a few and its only lately that this has happened

Searched doom9 and dvdhelp for solutions but no joy

    Cheers

I'd guess the problem is most likely with the source material you're burning. Can you check if the files you using play synched before you burn ?

are you burning from an AVI? Try converting to a MPEG2 at DVD bitrate (probably around 8000Mbps) and then making the DVD from that. It won't need to go recompressing, and if the desynch is happening during AVI-MPEG conversion, at least you won't waste a disk.

    This is the file

    Audio format AC-3m ecompressor
    Video Compression XVID

got the below pop up when using Nero

Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal dvd, but still fits onto a dvd-9 disc. You need a dvd-9 disc to record your project on

Do you want to have the project quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space

If you click No your project size will be expanded to dvd-9

This project was automatically reduced to long play (3382kbps)

    Then the file format is

    Book Type setting: 'Automatic'

    Sample format: Automatic
    Audio format: Automatic
    Encoding mode: Fast Encoding (1-Pass)

    Number of titles: 2
    1. hls- (Video Title, 1h 03m 50s)
    Video mode: PAL
    Aspect ratio: 16:9
    Quality: Long play (3382 kbps)
    Resolution: 720 x 576 (CCIR-601 D1)
Audio Smart Encoding ratio: 0.0 %
Video Smart Encoding ratio: 0.0 %
    2. hls- (Video Title, 1h 01m 22s)
    Video mode: PAL
    Aspect ratio: 16:9
    Quality: Long play (3382 kbps)
    Resolution: 720 x 576 (CCIR-601 D1)
Audio Smart Encoding ratio: 0.0 %
Video Smart Encoding ratio: 0.0 %

    Number of menus: 1
    - Main menu (1 page)

The audio when played on my pc is perfect yet when I burn it onto dvd its out of synch by about a second ???

So should I convert it to MPEG using TMPGENC before burning ?

i had the same problem with an xvid avi a few months back using nerovision . now nerovision will not work for me at all to make a dvd as it just crashes . found this program through dvdrhelp.com called VSO DivxToDVD http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm ,its free and worked perfect on an xvid avi i converted to dvd today. you just select your video source and force pal 25fps setting and press convert. it does not create a dvd menu screen ,but dvd plays when put in player and has chapters. its fast and worth a try.

Your sound is already AC3 so why don't ye keep it?
No point recompressing it again. Plus, it may even be 5.1 so would be nice to retain that. Use VirtualdubMod to extract the original AC3 and use whatever (TMPGEnc) to convert the video to dvd spec mpeg2.
join the two together using IFOedit and you'll get your vobs to burn in nero.
    Done.

    Virtualdubmod

IFOEdit <--use the dvd author option here.

No menu but there's loads of ways to create them with other apps.

So basically Nerovision is not what I should be using and do the above and then burn it with Nero and not nerovision ?

Might try VSO DivxToDVD as suggested

    Its driving me bonkers

Yeah I had that same problem as well and It only happened on a few DVD's but the AVI files would play fine on the PC.

I bought one of the Home Cinema Systems from Superquinn for 50 yoyo's and its the best bargain I have bought. I can fit 5/6 full movies on to a DVD in about 15mins and it play's them just as good as on the PC.

I don't know if there's any left but here's a link to the thread Superquinn DVD System

Good luck with your problem! ;)

Ok, here's a quick way I'd do it.
Open your avi in VirtualdubMod and click "Streams/Stream list". You will now see the AC3 sound file listed (with maybe other things like subs)
    Will look like this:

    virtdubmod09.gif

Highlight your AC3 and click "Demux" and save this somewhere to hdd.
    There's the sound done.

Now, open TMPGEnc and select the "DVD for PAL 16:9" template from the list. Set audio to "CBR MPEG-1 Layer II" as well and hit next.
    Open AVI and hit next.
Click "Other Settings" and set rate control to "2-pass VBR".
Set DC component precision to "10 bits"
Set Motion search precision to "High Quality". The higher the longer encode will takes but better the final video will be.
    Hit ok and then next.
Now the bitrate should be auto set depending on what you click (cd, dvd, custom size). If all looks ok click next.
Now last screen. Set the location for the output and uncheck "Encode Immediately". Click ok and your back to the main screen.
Now, important, check the radio button "ES (Video Only)". This will now output a *.m2v video only file.....as we already have the ac3 from the avi.
hit start and wait a few hours.

Once done open IFOedit and click "DVD Author".
Import the *.m2v and the audio. Set output and hit ok. You'll now get a working DVD. Test in your fav player on computer first before burning.
there's 101 different ways of doing this. I was a different method but I'd be typing all nite. :) I'm sure others could suggest different ways.

If you want chapters/Menu etc try TMPGEnc DVD Author or Nero Express.
    Hope this helps.

    hi

Created 2 AC3 files using virtualdub and demux

Then started up tmpgenc dvd author and tried to load second sound file but comes up with

    illegal audio format
For a standard dvd you can only use the following formats

Dolby Digital(AC-3), MPEG-1, audio Layer or linear PCM

The sound file is aC3 but wont bloody load????

The first sound file loaded perfect ?

    Anyone got any ideas ?

    Ta

Weird to see 2 AC3 streams in an AVI, but not unheard of I guess. You sure it's an audio stream and not a subtitle stream?

    Anyway, try BeSliced.
Run that and drag the corrupt AC3 onto it and choose "Fix File!" from the menu. This will repair the AC3 headers if they're borked. It creates a new AC3 file btw. Try importing it again.
I can't remember if tmpgenc dvd author supports more that one soundtrack?
    IFOEdit does anyway.

    Good luck.

    Hi

Might have forgot to mention there are 2 seperate avi files so had to demux them separately using virtualdub
Was thinking of joining them together and then using the demux to create the one ac3file ??

So with the first AC3 file I loaded it & the picture file into dvd author and all went ok

However when I tried to do the same with the 2nd AC3 file I created it loads up the picture but not the sound as below

Will try BESliced or might try joining the 2 files

    Thanks for the advice

Yeap, this is what you should do. Will save you hassle later.
Open the first avi in Vdub.
Goto "File/Append AVI segment" and open the second avi.
Click "Video" and set it to "Direct Stream Copy".
    "File/Save" new complete avi.

Now open new avi & demux the complete AC3. You still may need to repair it in Besliced as the header in the second AC3 might still give you trouble during import or upon playback.

    Hi

Joined them together using virtualdub and checked it and sound was out of synch back to my original problem

Will try and demux them individually and use BeSliced to try and fix the AC3 file

    I will get it eventually
