    From Waterford Today
The Director of Planning and Environment, Michael Walsh has revealed to Waterford City Council members that in an effort to alleviate the problem of illegal dumping in Waterford City, the City Council are currently surveying
1,000 addresses on their waste management database.

“We have gathered a good body of information from this survey about households who are not presenting rubbish and who we are not satisfied with the explanation they have given as to how they are disposing of their waste,” stated Mr Walsh.

He went on to say that “there isn’t 1,000 households, it’s addresses, some are duplicates. We are in the process of going through the addresses we have identified. Illegal dumping is a parasitic behaviour, one of the ways to improve the situation is to identify the household responsible for it.”

The article goes on to say illegal dumping has risen from 200 to 600 tonnes in the last 5 years and that it cost us €140,000 last year.

    Mike.

The annual charge is €100 plus tickets for Grey bin, €6 Green and Brown bins, €1.50 per pickup.

The answer to the second question is yes.

I think the time has come for central government to do away with the huge discrepencies that local authorites or privatised companies charge for collection. It varies from county to county... Green bins free or pay etc.
