The drive is built its not hot swapable like some drives on laptops. I am wondering how big of a job is it open up the case a get a new DVD RW and fit it in.Can this be done. Is it easy etc. I am very good with compuetrs but dont know that much about laptops.

    Will it affect the warranty?

    Thanks.

Almost certainly opening and removing the old drive will affect your warranty.

Seeing as those you will have to buy a replacement anyway (I'm assuming you have a USB 2 port on the laptop) you may want to consider an external USB drive

    Have a look at this

If you didnt get the firmware from http://www.rpc1.org then you should go there and see if they have your firmware. The forums there are excellent also, and if you post your drive model, someone may be able to send you the correct firmware.

    Good luck.
