hello seen adverts on tv for this new smart telecom company the are doing broadband for 35 euros a month with 2mb download speed, sounds very good to me.but you have to sign up to them for your phone service, still 2mbs bb download speed is amazing at 35 euros a month.

does anybody already have this service?.and if you do what do you think of it?.would be pleased to hear peoples comments on this.

still unavailable in some areas of the country, yep you guessed it its unavailable where i am  .

It doesn't start until LLU begins. Two months more at least.

Because 256k is faster than 128?

= Local Loop Unbundling, i.e. access to the last mile of the eircom network, from exchange to home/business.

i went onto smart telecoms site yesterday and entered my number, it said a trigger system is in place for broadband. fair enough

then i went onto eircoms site and that said my exchange is to be enabled during march 05, this month.

why would smart telecom have a trigger system on a broadband enabled exchange, not very smart is it

because Smart are very smart and are bypassing eircom's network altogether .. so eircom enabling an exchange has nothing whatsoever to do with Smart.

Well all i want is any bb connection in my area. The trigger system in place seems like a bit of a joke. 300 hits later and u still dont know if it will ever become available. Is there any other humanly possible way to get bb available in jmy area. I dont live in the sticks, I live on the main New Ross to Wexford road (100 metres from the exchange). Two new estates gone up and more in development. I have a feeling my area will expand very rapidly.

How can I get broadband?? please help a frustrated young man.

I'm not quite sure that I fully understand this! Don't Smart HAVE to use the eircom exchange and network?

Gentlemen, may I ask a question please? How come my telephone number is passed for broadband by Smart but yet fails the test according to UTVClicksilver and also fails Eircom's test. I is confused. Should I be suspicious of any ulterior motive by Smart (ie getting me to sign up now with Bank details etc for a service that may or may not be delivered in two months time).

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Smart will be installing their own equipment in Eircom exchanges and effectively "buying" your line off eircom - this is known as local-loop unbundling where you no longer have to pay line rental to Eircom.

currently the likes of IOL, UTV etc are just reselling eircom's existing broadband product, eircom still owns the line and you still have to pay line rental to eircom.

Many thanks for that, loyatemu ........... I wasn't aware of that tech aspect.

Thing is tho', that a close neighbour of mine - presumably using the same exchange (Wellington Road, Cork)-- has passed the Clicksilver test.

Doh ......... I've just become aware of the detailed threads on this topic over on the Computers/Nets,Comms/Broadband forum. :o I've studied the postings and am now a lot wiser and more clued-up on the subject.

    Apologies for wasting everyone's time.
