Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format.

I get this message every time i turn on my pc. Just when i click my name( only 1 other choice, fiancee's name) this comes up and its really starting to do my head in. Its probably ssomething simple, so please tell me how to get rid of it....
    thanks

Sounds like a corrupt file. back up your files and make a new profile for yourself and delete the old one.

You cant delete your own account while your in it.What you need to do is to sign in using the administrator account, and then delete and recreate your profile while logged on as the administrator.

To do this, when you reach the password screen after booting up, press CRTL + ALT + DELETE twice. This should bring up a box with "administrator" in the username line.Leave the password blank and click "ok".(If a password is needed, try your own usual password). Now you can go into the "users and password" options and you should be able to delete your profile. ;)

A word of warning though!!. If you are using winXPpro and have your hard drives formatted in NTFS ,you will lose access to any encrypted files you have by deleting your profile.WinXP home edition is not affected.
