Free to good home: ICL System 10 Series 120 complete system. Processing unit with two removable disk drives and three remote terminals (two in PWO & one for spares). Comes with manuals, disks and installed software for running a laundry.

It's not a real mainframe, but for those more used to PCs, this is BIG; about the size of 1½ 4-drawer filing cabinets plus the terminals. The last time I turned her on she was in good running order, so it’d be a shame to throw her out, but if no-one wants her, she’s going in a skip at the end of the week.

I'm afraid that's not really an option; it's not a question of money (did I really just say that?) I just hate to see a working machine with a lot of moving bits go for scrap. I'm sure that it won't end up in landfill; Greenstar didn't get to where they are today without squeezing every cent from other people's rubbish.

fair enough, was just a thought at least it would get used again and not just trashed, although is the mainboard covered in gold contacts? You could melt it down like they did in Albania with all the old Russian mainframes ;)

These guy might just be interested but then again probably not http://cedarsgw.leeds.ac.uk/ccs/

someone might want the dumb terminals if not the rest.

Thanks for the suggestions; I've emailed the CCS as it fits their criteria, being British.

I've got lots of electronic scrap going a-begging also if you know anyone who's interested.
