Judging by what I heard on the radio you'd be lucky if it went ahead, the press statement said it would but the band said Mike cant even stand up and they are taking it day by day.

This was posted on the official site yesterday, hopefully the weekend gigs at the Point are definitely on....

    02.23.05
POSTCARD FROM THE ROAD BACK...BIRMINGHAM AND BEYOND

It was wonderful to get a very reassuring phone call this morning from Mike’s doctor in Sheffield, clearing him to resume his touring activities; So, as we had hoped, the worst stage of the acute ear infection he experienced has passed and he can get back to doing what he is here to do— play shows with R.E.M. and yes, being stuck in Sheffield the past couple of days, hanging in the hospital, not doing shows, has brought back memories to 1995...but this illness ended up being much less severe than the ones we faced on the Monster tour. Thank goodness!

The Sheffield show is already rescheduled, and we are working to find a way to play the S.E.C.C. in Glasgow sometime in the summer. Hopefully that will be sorted out and we will play all the other shows as we have intended...rumors in South Africa to the contrary, we are certainly coming, right after Dublin this weekend. As we all know, don’t believe everything you read on the internet; unfortunately that rumor somehow got onto the national radio news (somebody get me fact-checking!) and had a lot of people upset. To reaffirm, the tour is back on …it was always day-to-day, based on Mike’s health, and now that he is better, the band is up and running again.

Some nice reviews appeared after the London show at the Hammersmith Apollo, some of which are here:
    Independent
    Financial Times
    NME.com

... and there is an excellent story from Antwerp in this morning’s International Herald tribune, the morning read of most expatriates over here in Europe.

It is a bright and sunny day in the midlands, and the snow from the past couple of days is about gone as we head down to Birmingham. It will be good to see the guys playing again (and to not disappoint thousands of fans... nobody likes that) and most of all, it will be good to see Mike healthy. Then on to Belfast, where R.E.M. has never played, and one of everybody’s favorite places anywhere, Dublin for two nights at the legendary Point Depot--a fitting end to an eventful European tour, and knowing we will be back for the open air shows in a few months.

    Onward Again

    -Bertis

Gig was unbelievable last night. I was standing pretty much front center and they played a 2 hour set. Michael Stipe threw his hat into the crowd at the beginning of the set and I caught it! :D

The gig last night was truely amazing alright - Stipe was in great form, the choice of music was excellent, the set was great and the crowd was alive...looking forward to the next gig in June :)

i agree the set was brill, couldnt belive it when they played the one i love, DRIVE and when mike sang dont go back to rockville. micheal stipe is without a doubt one of the most charismatic performers out there, cant wait for june!

What a stonker of a gig. I wasn't too impressed with the Marley gig last year, when Stipey was off-key for most of the first 5 songs, but they more than redeemed themselves with a good old-fashioned rocking wall of sound last night. The new material sounds so much harder live than on CD. And to hear my all-time favourite REM song Rockville as part of the encore - beautiful stuff.

The gig on Sunday night was truly fantastic; I'm still getting goose bumps thinking about it. I hate wishing time away but I am so looking forward to the Ardigaillan Castle gig, the anticipation. Also I have a question I've been trying to remember the exact order of the setlist to set up a playlist on my mp3 does anyone know- or know a site I can get it on?
