I think this is the right place for this...

Anyway, today i got diagnosed with a medical problem ( after months of tests) and its essential that i got a jab every two weeks. the shot is an intramuscular shot. So according to my specialist, my GP has to this injection ( as its an intramuscular injection). Now the problem is my GP is charging me 50euro every two weeks and then there is the 37euro a month for the medication aswell, money i simply dont have. And to make it worse i need to continue these shots for the next 3years. So yes this is going to cost a fortune and its money i simply dont have.

Is there any benfits or anything i could get to assist me? im not entirtled to the medical card?

As far as I know there is a family medical scheme where the maximum amount a family need spend on drugs per month is capped. I'm not sure of your circumstances but this may be of use to you if you live with your parents/partner.

Well there are a couple of ways to go around this.

Look into claiming back any medical expenses (over €125 for a single person,€250 for a married couple) from the Revenue Commission by using the Med 1 Form. Unfortunately you'll have to wait till the end of the year to submit your reciepts (yes, which means you'll have to pay out of your own pocket first :( ) You wouldn't recieve the full amount back, but it'd be a good chunk of it anywho.

Do you have health insurance (VHi; Bupa)? If so, ring them and ask if there is anything they can do for you.

Also, ask your local Pharmacist about the Drug Refund Scheme. I'm not exactly sure how it works, so I say the following with some reluctance in case it is incorrect: but I think if you pay over €120 per month on prescriptions, you can recieve them for free... or for a much smaller fee. Again, please look into this, rather than take my word as gospel as there's a big chance I'm very much mistaken! Unfortunately I can't seem to find anything on the web right now, but if you rang your local chemist they'd be able to fill you in.

    Hope this helps!

if it is the B12 shoots your local health nurse in the clinic can adminsiter them
it costs a lot less then a visit to the doc or if your gp practice has a nurse practioner they can do it instead.

How do i get in contact with my local health nurse?
My specialist at the hospital never mentioned anything about this?
And nope its not b12 shots.

I cant get the drug refund scheme cos thats at least 85 euro a month f(or drugs only), so i dont qualify. looked it already.

Although i will check into the revenue and see if i can get some money back.

Unfortunatly im not under VHI or BUPA insurance, im only 19 and i wouldnt of ever thought about going for some insurance. And my parents are covered eithier.

Thanks guys any other advice appreciated.

ring your local health board. they will be able to provide information on who/where your local health nurse might be.
