    Hi Guys,

I'm kinda going through a bubblegum punk phase, usually listen to stuff like nofx, millencolin, blink, bad religion, greenday et al but have started to get much more into pop punk upbeat stuff like Go Betty Go, especially their C'mon C'mon track.

Anyone know of other bands with the same kind of feel?

Hehe, someone's been listening to disc one of the Warped Tour '04... anyway, The Eyeliners are another bubblegum punk type band (with female vocalist... phwoar!). Who else... hmm... the Real McKenzies are kinda in that vain aswell. Useless I.D. work too. That's enough to get you started anyway.

Not bubblegum, but, upbeat... I was trying to come up with as much as possible like. :)

Yeah I know what you mean. :) Guttermouth would be another one, kinda like the Vandals.

It's alright... 2002 was the best in my mind, thought judging from the videos I've seen the bands had much more energy in 2003. Ah well, it's all great AND I'LL BE THERE THIS YEAR!!! WOOO! COMIC BOOK RAWK! (Yes, I'm excited.)

    P.S what's bubblegum punk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

I'm assuming its just another name for pop punk. ie. bubblegum pop.

    Silly punk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭NotMe

Bubblegum pop was the happy pop music of the late 60s and early 70s.
The defining characteristics of bubblegum music include catchy or hummable melodies, simplistic three-chord structures, repetitive riffs or "hooks", and lightweight lyrics, deceptively simple at best or even only one step removed from nursery rhymes.
The Ramones were heavily influenced by bubblegum pop.

It's just lighter, more upbeat punk... fun music in my mind. And yes, I will be at Warped 05.. oh yes, I will!

There are so many things wrong with that sentence i dont even know where to start. I cant believe people actually like these bands. I also cant believe that people like Go Betty Go are able to get away with writing songs like that, and get signed and go on tour with it.
Have you ever heard of a thing called originality??

Check out the HORRORPOPS! They are fupping brilliant. Just let it wash over you! Their album Hell Yeah is out in the stores but you will probably find it easier in Tower and at only €12.99, its a steal!

Go to http://horrorpops.com/mp3s.htm and have a listen to their two MP3s. To be honest they arent their best songs. In my opinion, Psychobitches outta hell and Cool Flattop are the albums crackers.

You should check out The Dead Milkmen. Parody punk?

If you want to look around a genre of music check out this website

    www.allmusic.com

If you put in a band it lists their style types which you can explore and also allows you see similar artists.

Adam and the Ants "Kings of the Wild Frontier" is real punk pop.

THe SLF definitly have a kind of pop feel espically in songs like "Suspect Device" and "Alternative Ulster". Alot of early punk was really very poppy and had tuns of pop covers.

They had a memorial gig last Novemeber as the bass player died. I went to see them in Philladelphia as I loved them when I was younger. Only European who traveled as far as I know, met an Australian who also traveled.

If you like punk go to Philly, it's like the city is in somekind of time warp stuck in late 70's/early 80's. The whole place is like Dublin in the bad old times.

I remember them alright. Only know two songs. Wouldn't really think of them as pop, or any kind of punk. Happy Rock I'd say. But I do like that Lipstick And Bruises song...

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 9,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭mayordenis

Well Ro: maaan! im not saying your wrong by any means but there album "a place in the sun" is definately what id consider punk of some description lipstick & bruises is off atomic which is less punky.
but i dunno i love 'em

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Oh I'm only judging by Lipstick And Brusies and My Own Worst Enemy. I really don't know what I'm talking about. Except the bit about Lipstick And Bruises being good. Just listened to it. Quality.

"I think I heard someone call him... Mullettron!" ...Or something.
