    Star quiet, step after step
    He walked toward home.
    The door shut, slammed,
    A cold snap of heartbreak,
    Like the dry twig crack
    Before the deer’s head rising
    Right as it’s gunned down.
    Page bare his lack of thought dwells
    On nothing then jumps, book full,
    Crammed, stuffing volatile at the seams,
    Wondering how sunflowers store
    Sunlight he passes over the bridge
    Pausing to marvel at the sound of traffic
    And still waters flowing below in the
    Starry night above, undoes his shoelaces
    And stands on the rail barefoot;
    Cold steel shiver, soft breeze chill
    And comforting to know, life goes on
    Without him.
