Got this in my mail box today what do ya'll make of it. Is it genuine??

    From Jane Simmons

I think You may be able to help with my university project?

I do apologize for bothering you however I found your e-mail address on a chain letter (forward) that was sent to me and thought that as your e-mail address was on one of these forwards you may have other chain letters or forwards that you could send to me. I would be grateful of absolutely any you have (even the rude ones) and please keep them coming for the next year as my project is based over a year and I need as many as I can get my hands on for the project to be a success. Don't worry my mail box can handle it and I will let you know when to stop sending them.

I am doing research for a university project and need to gather one million chain mails (forwards) the subject can be absolutely anything but we need a million so that we can get some fairly accurate results. We are trying to ascertain the different subjects that go around the internet as chain mail (forwards) and how many people they actually reach. We are trying to ascertain trends and patterns, also we know that around 85% of all e-mails are Spam but what we don't know is what percentage of that accounts for chain mail (forwards). I would also be very grateful if you would be kind enough to forward this e-mail to all your friends as I need as many as I can get my hands on for the project to be a success.

I will let you have a copy of my research results and conclusions when it is complete.

I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to send all e-mail to the following address, don't worry I have a huge mail box. wrmjrb6@yahoo.co.uk

    Thanks

    Jane

I do understand the concerns regarding internet security and will understand if you wish for me to remove your e-mail address from my list. Please just reply to this e-mail with the word Delete in the subject line and your e-mail address will be removed.

Could be a well-crafted social effort to harvest mail addresses.

If she was doing a research project then she would be using a university email address rather than yahoo.

Yeah that was my initial thought but what if this girl is actually genuine?
It's unfair that the indescretions of others lead to her having difficulty carrying out research.

Is the return address the same as the senders?

    ehh huge mailbox?
    with yahoo?

surely theyed have a huge mailbox on there own sever?

its either a trick to confirm whether your email is active or some sort of attack on yahoo.
    former is more likely, tbh.

and why should you care if it is genuine?
you receive unsoliticed mail from someone youve never met,
which they got from the cc of another chain mail?
they shouldnt be hijacking your info in that way , at all.

Like I said this was around before, I think its some spam, getting you to respond is a way of validating your email address.

Don't listen to me though, go ahead. Try it. And come back and tell us all about penis enlargement.

Never siad I was going to try it but if you want to know about penis enlargement try Google

That should get you on the right road.

Well even better than just getting your email confirmed they are also getting the addresses off of the chain letters, that can be anything up to one hundred at a time.
If you think she may be genuine then send her a mail, if you want to check then set up a honey pot address and use that, see how much spam comes into a fresh hotmail set up for the purpose.

Good idea but sounds too much like hard work.

But you were concerned enough to start a thread ??? Ah well, each to their own.

In fairness a thread is a couple of clicks and a bit of typing. Setting up an email address is more drawn out.

I simply wanted to know what people thought not to start laying traps and the rest.

If it was genuine then she'd have a web site on the university domain unless she's totally clueless about the internet, in which case she shouldn't be helped.

Most of you have failed the gullability test.

You are almost certainly being asked to spam some victim whose email has been faked.

PS. who needs clicks to setup fake emails - checkout BLAT
