Next, the police kicked King and struck him 56 times with night sticks, first to knock him down, then to keep him there as he attempted to lift his head while he lay on the ground.

In addition to the three officers personally involved in delivering blows, 24 other law enforcement officers allegedly watched the beating; some of them were said to have assisted in holding King down by placing their feet on his back. Two other African-Americans who were in the car with King cooperated with police and were not harmed.

Three officers and a sergeant were indicted on March 15 for "assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury" and with assault "under color of authority," and two were charged with filing false police reports. Three of the men charged were non-Hispanic whites, and one was Hispanic.

The defense successfully filed for a change of venue away from Los Angeles County, where the incident occurred and where, it was argued, the policemen could not receive a fair trial, to suburban Ventura County (Simi Valley), whose population is more affluent, contains a much smaller proportion of African-Americans, and contains a disproportionately large number of law-enforcement officers. At trial, the defense argued that the officers had legitimate reason to believe King was extremely dangerous and possibly on a mind-affecting drug such as PCP and that the force used was justified by that threat. Although media coverage had repeatedly emphasized the racial aspect of the case, King testified at trial that he did not believe the police beat him because he was black.

On April 29, 1992, three of the officers were acquitted by a jury of 10 non-Hispanic whites, one Hispanic, and an Asian. The jury could not agree on a verdict for one of the counts on one of the officers.

Seems to me that this is the cool thing to say on boards these days tbh. Some people have to ruin all the fun. Lets all go back to watching paint dry, nothing to see here.

The cop didn't do anything to suggest it was a fake, infact he beat the guy up pretty well.

hehe, i thought the cop clip was pretty messed up....would have liked the clip to keep rolling to see how it panned out! Did the cop grab him and arrest him? Did the guy hop into the car and burn? Was that amount of force neccecary to defuse the situation/arrest him? he didn't try to grab him or anything...just wanted to beat the p!ss out of him cause he was insulted! Not very professional .......like i said, messed up.........

A friend of mine used to be a police officer with the NYPD and is a very religous man, so I asked him about Rodney King.He told me that if the cops were beating on that guy so bad he must deserve it! This wasn't unit loyalty or anything, this man was a real straight shooter and would not condone any malfeasance, but he felt that guy got what was deserved by his actions!
Same man (he's Irish) was a Marine going to Vietnam until they changed the rules so only US Citizens were sent there.He became an MP,imagine arresting drunk Marines you'll see how hard he was! He then became an NYPD Officer and later transferred to the fire Dept.
Rodney King was and is a scumbag and all the talk about him being treated badly because of race is horse ****! He was treated appropriately for being a scumbag!

I watched the video. The beating of Rodney King was more then excessive.

Being beaten by three cops while being held down by others who were standing on him while around 20 or so cops watched on and did nothing. This was after he had already been beaten to the ground and shot multiple times with tazers.

Or is that somehow justifed for a traffic violation and resisting arrest?
