HL2 in black and white.

I just built my new machine today and it works like a charm
Doom3 runs very smooth and the overall performance is excellent.

However when i went to play Half Life 2 its in black and white!
I tested about 5 games and they are all in colour, just not HL2.
Has anyone any ideas why?
I looked in the HL2 options and no colour options.
I opened the graphics card menu and it all seems fine.
WIndows is set in 32 bit colour, 1024x768

Amd 64 3500+ 90nm WIn
Sapphire 9800PRO 1268 mb
1024 DDR
Win XP.

I just updated windows and all my drivers (inc for the graphics card)
Still no change.

Any help would be cool.

Thats just plain weird and damn annoying.

You know yourself it has to be the software causing this.

Guess all you can do is re-install the gfx card/drivers/HL2 and hope for the best :-(

Go into advanced graphic settings and make sure smartshader effects are not switched to black & white in d3d and opengl.

Where are the smartshader effects?

I added a picture with the advanced display tools,
cant find smartshader though

Yeah, i may try reinstalling it now.
I think it could be the smartshader thingy though,
ive no idea how to get to this menu though

Is it just the very start of the game? Have you let it run for about 5 minutes?

I played a little bit, maybe not even 5 minutes.
Why would this make a difference?

Because the game is supposed to be black and white at the start.

Well i got it at last.

reinstalled the video drivers and it works fine now!!
