well, you have me baffled here Unkel. My gut reaction would be italian design on a british car, but could be anything because the design is not distinct enough...
I guess some hints are in order here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,395 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I knew that one was coming :D

The link to GM should be getting very obvious now you all know where the car is NOT from

The Lotus link is that one of the three brothers worked for 5 months for Colin Chapman at Lotus

    Warm!

The car is Australian and it is based on a Holden. Holden are part of the GM group. The car is a well known collectible classic in Australia. We're talking late 60s here

For gods' sake Unkel :D , how on earth would you have expected us to know that it is a 1968 Bolwell MK7 !!!!!

Even I wouldn't have had a clue, and to be honest, I have never, ever heard of the make ;)

I would have never found it if you hadn't mentioned "based on a Holden" because I knew it was definitely not a Holden! I guess we will have to take your word for it that is a "well known collectible classic in Australia"

Oh and buy the way, why did you cut the lovely lady accompanying the car so crudely in Half!!!

    Excellent Paul :D

A couple of boxes of cigars methinks

The car is dubbed the "Australian Ferrari". Here is the Bolwell Car club of Australia

More than half of the originals are still around. Highly rated classic in Australia

I reckon noone made the connection between RHD and Australia until we ran out of continents. If you don't know it's Australian, it's like a needle in a haystack. The styling looks very European to me

Came upon it during one of my recent searches. Never heard of it myself before either

    Nice motor it is :)

I spent a year in Oz and a year and a half in NZ and talked cars every lunchtime with a workmate who owned one of the few mint Ford Falcon GTHO (the super-roo) and I've never heard of these.I wonder what the production run was? Heres some shots of their other motors kinda remind me of penelope pitstops car in wacky racers!!!

Iirc about 400 of the MK 7, of which at least 200 are still driving + who knows how many in project / restoration status

That ratio says a lot for a 35+ year old car

Some were factory produced, some were sold as kits

The original pic looks like it is from the cover of the 1966/67 sports car world magazine cover of the issue with the prototype Mk7.

The wheels are Melbourne made alloy centre chromed steel rims (Skog?)popular at the time and still on the prototype when i owned it two decades later.

Orginally with 3litre (186ci) holden six with Triumph trans.

Originally white then yellow then metallic blue, now?

Stayed in Victoria until 1984 then thru several owners in South Australia before back to Victoria in 86/87

Is it back on the road yet?

Why no pics or mention of the Nagari in all these exchanges.

The blue Mk 5 looks great my second bollie was a Mk 5 and it was heaps of fun despite the 2.2 litre six and MGA trans

Whats the body made of - steel / glassfibre?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 gooseman

fiberglass body...with a steel chassis! my windscreen casing is steel ...due to the fiberglass popping the windscreen out on these mk7's. Other than that this car is a beast. Mind you i have a lot of work ahead to do to get roadworthy :)
