Which format is best to use?

My DivX player can read both standards and I was wondering which format works best. I'll be backing up .avi files mostly

Actually DVD-R has the higher compatability with Stand alone DVD players

My DivX player recognises both so this shouldnt be an issue.

degsie, I have googled and searched forums on this before. Im looking for people's current opinion on the formats, not something 3-6 months old and im feeling lazy :D

if you are going to burn divx and the discs are only going to be used in that player alone then dvd+R is better

if you are going to burn normal dvd movies that you may want to use in other standalone dvd players dvd-r is better because it is more compatible not because it is better quality
