smoothin the edges

    just the gif's ive been makin keep having very defined jagged edges
    what'd be the best way to go about smoothin these out?

    You can try using the magic wand outside the gif, in the transparent area and select->feather - 1 or 2 pixels and then delete this selected area.

    should work for gifs that size I think.

    gif's aren't very good with transparency - try png's

    thanks lads will have a go at the feathering first,
    then all try the ol' png approach see what happens

    yep png is the way to go for smooth edges, just beware of incompatibility issues with some browsers

    If you know what the bg colour is you'll be displayiing the transparency on top of, use the save for web feature and set the matte to the corresponding html colour code. That'll get rid of most untidiness. This wil mean you keep the filesize down and have more browser compatibility...
    If it's for some site where the bg colour is user definable via skins then choose either matte balck or white; whichever looks better....

    Very true, although you need to be sure you're working in an RGB color space (mode > RGB) as opposed to the indexed colour setting. By Switching to RGB more detail is left after a feather operation, where photoshop uses more gradations to delete to your BG colour. Results in a marginally larger File Size .. but hey who isn't on Broadband these days !
