Development Blotch

    Hey all,

A while ago I expressed interest in slr cameras to my father. He produced his old camera. He bought it before I was born. Its an Olympus OM-2 MD.

I was at a mini meet up (as in the car) in Carlow not too long after and I took the camera (and the three lens's that my father had given me). I took a couple of rolls.

I got them developed in my local pharmacy. When I picked them up I noticed that every photo had a blotch (like a dark spot) in the same place (upper left corner).

Needless to say I was very concerned about this. Given the cameras age I was sure that something was wrong with it. I started to research the camera. I found out that its a really good camera and that most likely it would cost a lot to have it looked at.

Then I remembered that I had taken some snaps earlier. I found them and they did not have the same mark on them. So I had a look at the negatives and lo and behold, they dont have the mark either!!!

So it must have been the development process. Now my problem is weather they will believe me when I bring the pics back. I dont think that they gave me a reciept and if they did I probably dont have it!

What am I going to say to these guys?!?

(sorry for the long winded story :p )

If you bring the negatives and the prints they have no argument...blotch is on the prints and not on the negatives so the machine has a roller that needs cleaning.
I had the same thing (well, a smear) with a batch of black and whites that I'd had developed in town. They redid them without question.

Did you have a receipt with you??

I had the film envelope and it had their stamp on it. However I go to the same place a lot so they probably remembered me?

Yeah, I have the envelope all right. I dont reckon they know me though. I think that might have even been the first time that I got films developed there.

Should be okay though. Just remembered that my mates sister works there (although not in the developing section)

Thanks for the replys. Most helpfull! :)

    what colour is the blotch?
is the exact same shape and position on every shot
if it's not on the negative, it's a fault of the person printing it as they are meant to print what's on the negatives

bring the film back to the manager of the shop

I work in a photo lab and of anybody isn't happy with their prints I do whatever is possible to improve the prints

Brought the pics back over the weekend. Was grand. My mates sister was on the desk and when I told her bout the blotch she said they would do the prints again for free. I think that a few people had returned pics with the same thing. There was no suprise when I explained the problem.

    Thanks for all the replys.
    :)

    Gob.
