    Alrigh'

I got a new laoptop recently- its a dell inspiron 5160, pretty kool.
I went to look at a DVD this evening and it said something about changing my regions.. so I changed it to "ireland- region2".. and windows media player let me watch my DVD [Spaced]
    BUT
the lipsinc is all out.. the sound is coming thru about half a second late.. which sounds like nothing but completely ruins the enjoyment of the dvd..

    Has anyone any suggestions?
Is it to do with the software Im using or regional settings or maybe the settings of the computer itself ??

I tried other software [power DVD] and the sinc was out on that also. I then tried a different disc [Fight Club] and the sinc was out on that also..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    TIA
    womoma

Well at least you ruled out the player.
It's deffo not a region issue.
I'd say it's either video driver (most likely) or audio driver.

That has a GeforceFX 5x00video afaik. Get the lastest drivers for it from the Dell site. If the driver's to blame it's an video overlay issue. I had same issue on my laptop too (GeforceFX 5600) Only the Nvidia 44.93 drivers will work on it in order to get DVD playback. Anything else and it shudders.

Also, just try and switch the desktop colour between 16bit & 32bit.

    This is wierd.

I seacrhed about a bit and found that other dell inspiron users were having trouble with sound with the bundled power dvd. I had used an older [and nicer looking] version of power dvd with my old desktop for 2 years without any problem.

    Anyways

I was lookin at another thread here for free software and decided to check out VLC media player- its freeware open source dvd player.. and what ya think happened?
    - it worked. Perfect.

Its hillarious the way this kinda **** goes on.- i mean, I download some free software and it plays all my dvds perfectly, unlike windows media player or power dvd which came with my dell.. not only this but it looks and feels superb...

I later downloaded Firefox and have just started using it..

I leaned a valuable lesson today- not to be a software snob.. "free software" does NOT mean "**** software"...
it can actually mean "well thought out and user considerate software"...
