Well if you play golf you should know that the gui has published the list of drivers that will be banned. The ban will come into effect everywhere in 2008 and in big GUI competition such as the boys etc in 2005, this year. Some of the big clubs o nthe list are the taylor made 500 series, the 700 series and the xr series.

I myself have the taylor made r540. It is on the list but I have the non conforming version. I think it will be ok, either way I'm sticking with my club, as I paid good money for it, and if the gui wish to ban my club they can pay for its replacement, the shower of bastards.

I can't seem to post the link but if you go to www.gui.ie then to News and scroll down to 17/02/2005 under the heading "GUI Introduces Limit for Drivers at National and Provincial Championships from 2005" this will show you

You can't blame the GUI - it's the R&A that are introducing the rule!

This has been in the news for at least 5 years - when did you buy the driver you have now??

The OP was 2 years ago, so it might not be an issue now.

Without getting technical, its to do with how the ball springs off the clubface. A very thin clubface compresses slightly at impact and almost gives the ball a little push on its way (called the trampoline effect). The outlawed clubs had a high trampoline effect.
