Remote Desktop Problem

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to connect to my home machine using remote desktop (I know you'll say vnc is an option but that's already been ruled out.....)
    The problem is sometimes when I need to access my machine I don't have admin access at the comp I am working at. This means that I can't install the remote desktop client and you can see the problem from there.....
    Is there any way to install the client without admin rights or is there a stand alone client that would allow me to connect....

    Not aware of a standalone client.

    What's the OS on the local machine? XP has the client installed by default AFAIK. I have the win2k client installed. I could try sending you the .exe and any relevant .dll's if you want?

    I take no responsibility for anything that happens once you get them though.

    Also, it'll be after 5pm when I send them if you do want them.

    Here's a list of the dll's that it requires. You should have all of these, so probably only need the exe.

    comdlg32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\comdlg32.dll
    WS2HELP.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\WS2HELP.dll
    WS2_32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\WS2_32.dll
    WSOCK32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\WSOCK32.dll
    COMCTL32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCTL32.dll
    OLEAUT32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\OLEAUT32.dll
    ole32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\ole32.dll
    SHLWAPI.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHLWAPI.dll
    msvcrt.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcrt.dll
    SHELL32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll
    USER32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\USER32.dll
    GDI32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\GDI32.dll
    RPCRT4.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\RPCRT4.dll
    KERNEL32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\KERNEL32.dll
    ntdll.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll
    ADVAPI32.dll => C:\WINDOWS\system32\ADVAPI32.dll
    mstsc.exe => C:\WINDOWS\system32\mstsc.exe

    Nope.

    Don't think so, but could be wrong. Would still require correct priviledges, i'd imagine.

    XP Pro should have Remote Desktop Connection installed by default - is that the OS you're using?

    Sorry for the late reply. I'm trying to access my xp pro home pc from a Win 2k machine. Looks like it might not be possible. I'll give that dll list a go and see what happens tomorrow.

    Thanks again,
    Eric

    The dll's are probably all there. If you want the .exe, pm me.

    Tried the suggestions but couldn't get the damn thing to work. I know it's possible from that location cos I have admin rights on 1 of the machines but don't always get to use it....
    Only bit of hope is the remote desktop web connection which I have successfully set up. Only problem is the active x based client run over the web doesn't seem to allow me to specify a non default port like the standard client does. It just gives a javascript error. Anyone know of a way around this?
