    is censorship still a live issue in ireland? i know there is a committee for banning lit but is it active? what books do they ban? on what grounds? where can i get them?

    Both books and periodicals may be prohibited if the Board considers that they advocate abortion or ways of carrying out abortions. Periodicals may also be prohibited if the Board is of the opinion that they have given an unduly large proportion of space to matters relating to crime. In practice, however, publications are usually only reported to the Board for obscenity.

    That's from the above link, seems like they could ban a lot of stuff if they fancied it, e.g. all crime novels!

    I've been meaning to look up the complete list for ages so I can go read everything on it. I think I could do without some of the clearly pornographic titles....though you would wonder what specially caused them to be banned.

    most of the list are trash porn from skimming the list, some authors have dozens of banned books.

    Censorship is a pretty moot point in an era of internet shopping, there's bound to be some place that'll sell you anything...
