    Not normally a windows basher, because I find it quite a good OS, today however, I got an error message which said:

    "Out of memory!"

    I nearly pissed myself laughing. My work machine has 4 gigs of ram (I work in a memory intensive area). I cracked open the same script on a linux box with the same amount of ram, blammo. Done to satisfaction in around a minute.

    I understand how this could happen, despite the similarly spec'd machines. Their kernels allocate memory differently. Just goes to show though, that Linux is probably a better designed OS for high end computing.

    Windows--;

    did it say which type of memory ?

    ( ) Conventional
    ( ) Physical
    ( ) Swapfile
    ( ) Expanded/Extended
    ( ) GDI resources (or one of the other two hard coded 64KB buffers) ?
    ( ) Harddrive
    ( ) Network drive
    ( ) none of the above

    Pain in the arse when the error doesn't tell you which resourse is full.

    Unreal amount of grief you used to get from users with Word in Windows 95 and the message that "you should get you hard drive checked for errors as it might fail", and you have to try to explain to them that it's just microsoftese for "your floppy disk is full" :rolleyes:
