On-Call/Standby allowance

This is a quick survey/discussion/query about on-call allowance for sys admins
or techies who are responsible for production systems.

Do you get an on call allowance in return for having a mobile phone on you
available either 24/7 or for set hours outside your normal 9-5?

What is your on-call compensation (as a percentage of your salary is a good
    enough answer)?

I have read somewhere that a benchmark for on-call allowance is to total up
the number of hours you are expected to be on standby, and you should get paid
a quarter of your full normal calculated hourly rate for each of those hours.
Has anyone else seen this, or had any experience in this?

Answers from Unix admins or people who work in the internet/ISP industry would
    be a help please :)

i used to get 25% on call allowence, plus 1.5 times if actually called in for, paid for a minimum of 4 hours no meeter how short the call was.
although iuf the call was longer than 4 hours, then i just got the 25% plus the 1.5 times allowance.

    if that makes sense.

that was for a network engineer.

IT support for a large multi-national (all areas of support, Unix, Windows, VMS, Databases - you get the picture). A paltry 12.5% on call allowance for just being on call, plus 4 hours double time for each time you are called (or the actual duration if it is greater than four hours).

I do Unix,Windows/general sys support. We do 24/7 on call one week in 4. Get a set on call allowance of €400 for week on call and for taking calls. If callout is required it's 4 hours minimum plus milage allowance. Not too bad except I'm paid the same regardless of whether I've 20 calls outside hours or none.
