Could my mac be infected?

And if so, what can I do about it?

I'm getting a LOT of returned mail messages to my yahoo account that I have never sent.

The last straw was today when I got a personal message asking me not to send anymore advertising!

Is it my machine or just my email address thats being used?

nothing to do with changing your password - it's a spammer using your mail address

I can't see it being spyware either
Because it'sa webbased account the problem should be on the web not on your computer

That's what I was worried about. I did send the mail to Yahoo, telling them about this.

Is there a Spyware cleaning prog for OSX? I'm running the lastest version (10.3.8). I've never had any problems with it before, and have the firewall up.

    Thanks for your help guys.

It's not a virus on your mac and it's HIGHLY unlikely a 'spammer' has your email password.

I would guess that someone (perhaps a friend) has a virus which is sending out mails and spoofing the return address using addresses in that persons email address book, so you are receiving the failure notices.

Or it could be a simple case of a spammer having picked your address as his @from@ address. That happened to me a few weeks ago - I suddenly started getting bounces for sales@mydomain.com - there was a flood of them. I have a catchall on the domain so I needed to go and setup a sales account and bounce it.

Pain in the neck but at least it was quickly solved..In your case you could try changing your address or else just ride out the storm..
