Registering FTA card on Irish box

Someone told me that SKY do not have a database with the box serial numbers.
Does that mean there will be no problem registering a new FTA card with a SKY Ireland 6 month old box?
Should the telephone lead be out when using the FTA card?
    Thanks, in anticipation!

    Hi Tommee,
NEVER have a telephone lead connected to your digibox when using a FTA card. with the lead in sky can detect and wipe your card. FTA cards work in any digibox, their not married to them. :)

Just how exactly can Sky "detect" your card and wipe it?

    Thanks for the reply-
is it possible to activate a number of cards using the same box and serial number,
not at the same time of course.
Just wondering.....as I gather SKY do not have a data base for the box numbers

IIRC you have to ring them up with the serial number of the box and the card to activate it and then a code is sent over the air to that card in that box. So they MUST have a dB, just maybe they aren't using it..

They see the serial number is UK, the card is dialling out from Ireland and they will then send a signal to the card which basically destroys it, making it permanently unusable (sky use the same system for cancelled, lost or viewing cards which are not activated within 2 weeks of dispatch from HQ). All you will get on the ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 channels is a message "This viewing card is not authorised. Please contact the broadcaster for assistance". So you will have no working FTV card.

That's what happened to my friends card.

The later cards (the free2view.net and more recent ones issued) have not required a phone call to activate - they activate when you put them into the box. (At least all the once I have worked in that way. A serial number was probably given when ordering, but not for activation.)

Any one know how to re-activate the FTA Cards if you get this message "this card is not authorised" ????

I have a FTV card which says "call your broadcaster to upgrade your subscription" for ITV, CH4 & CH5. I have tried leaving it in my box overnight without any luck. How do I activate it? BBC 1 & 2 are working fine.

Does anyone know if I can activate 2 FTV cards on the same sky box.
I have 2 cards and would like to have them working before giving them to friends. So does sky keep a record/database of the serial numbers of boxs.?
