    http://www.amazon.com/

Finally, a trailer with some footage has arrived!!

Had the World Premiere on Amazon just a couple of hours ago. Shame it's in horrible Flash.. but typical of Amazon! When are they gonna learn you can't watch a trailer in Flash... pixelated to hell!

It's obviously Amazon are really trying to push it as the premiere.. it's on the Index page.

Anwways, the film looks great but i'm definantly waiting for a Quicktime version to arrive online and i'll rewatch it!

    Enjoy!

it looks like they've made it into an action movie with a bit of slapstick humour.

I don't want to spoil it for the half-dozen who've never read it but i seem to recall some major action at the begining of the book!

AICN had a preview-screaning review up a while a go (here); sounds really good, tbh.

Don't think I've looked forward to a film this much in a long time - anyone know a release date yet?

My word, doesn't the Zaphod head effect look freakin' awful?

    Great trailer, apart from that.

Goodshape: UK Release is the 29th of April. It says it at the end of the trailer.

It says it at the end of the trailer.

In work - no sound on comp, so no trailer until I get home.

Cheers for the info.. not that long away at all really!

Looks decent but I wanted to hear Marvin talk...

Looks promising in so far as one can tell anything form such a small flash screen. Ford is not an amercian however and never will be.

No, you're right there. It completely disgusts me that they would dare cast an American in the role when he's clearly supposed to be from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Beetleguise! ffs!

    It's just not realistic

If Douglas Adams wrote that ppl from a small planet near Betelgeuse sound like they're from Guildford then thats how they should sound! :D

I cannot WAIT for this. But yeh Zaphod's head doesn't look the Mae West.....

Though Alan Rickman doing Marvin's voice sounds like it's gonna be brilliant :)

I loved the books and the TV series was deadly so all we can do now is wait and see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Well, in fairness, Ford was supposed to have a fairly hard time fitting in at first (minimal research and all that)... who knows, Mos Def could be alright - I've never actually seen him in anything else tbh, but he's done, like, plays and things.

I'm more worried that Arthur's just going to be too much like Tim 'from the Office'.

I read the first book years ago and then read the whole trilogy at christmas. I'm gonna go see this.

Zaphoid Beetlebox doesn't look great and I don't like the look of Marvin but I might warm to them.

Better than watching it in Flash anyways. Shame about the timecode and 'Do Not Duplicate' message

I think its time to ask for a HHG board!

They better not **** this up, it looks to American to me......fingers crossed.

Hmm, as a fan of the Radio and TV series, then the books (in that order), I'm a bit non-plussed by an American review. It could look good to them, but cringe inducing for us who have loved Adams' creation, as a more Brit-centric idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭dceire

How far into the trilogy dose the movey go?

I think it was best left as a radio programme and book.
The TV series was nothing compared to the books technology and budget being the two main factors and now when they are no longer factors Mr Adams is not with up to oversee procedings.

But i'm still looking forward to seeing it.

Ok..... my fears may be justifed... I've just looked at the trailer...

Firstly, Freeman looks perfect for the role, but Arthur lives in the middle of English nowhere. Realistically, how many black friends is a rural Brit going to have? The Vogons need to be a darker shade of green; The demolition looks like an outtake of Independence Day; Zaphod should be a loud American, no problems there; Trillian looks hhhhoooottt... The effects are standard for this day and age... but, besides all the slapstick we see in the trailer, we have no idea if the screenplay will match the brilliance of the original forms of Adams' work.

So, from that... I still dont know. :(

for the purpose of this film, he only needs the one.

I think the trailer is an extended teaser.. it gives very little away.. we don't even get to hear Alan Rickman as Marvin.

    Still looking forward to it!

I take it that robot was marvin in the clip.. funny.. i always imagined marvin to be a bit like bender in futurama... since i read the books long before futurama was concieved i would have to say this was my imagination and not based on Bender...

My point is.. Its not how i imagined he would look.
Seems very umm.. MIB2 like.. i mean MIB was good, MIB2 sucked. Still im hoping this will be good.

Odd. So did I. I was hoping he wouldn't look all futuristic. Interesting to see how it all turns out. I really hope it's not completely shíte.

i actually think marvin looks perfect. i never would have pictured him looking like that, but the giant drooping head makes him look totally dejected, like he should. plus, he's always refering to his "brain the size of a planet", so he should have a huge head.

i think sam rockwell is perfect for zaphod, thought that as soon as i heard he was doing it. brash and confident etc..

reading the AICN review, it says freeman is quite different from tim, i was a bit worried about that as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,336 ✭✭✭OfflerCrocGod

Ye I imagined Marvin like Bender as well but I believe he is described like Bender so maybe the for the film it was decided to change the appearance to something more like a depressed iPodot.

    dceire42.jpg

    Nice one :D:D

Thought the trailer looked pretty good actually. They're definitly not giving away too much though.

The AICN review seemed to think they had the guide itself done perfectly - none of that shown in the trailer. I'd say that could eaisly be a deciding factor. Can't wait to see it.

Exactly. Ford Prefect is supposed to be different from everyone else. How better to make him stand out than make him a black man where there's not likely to be any black men?

Also Trillian, yes yes god yes.... Zooey whatshername was deadly in Elf and she's perfect for Trillian.

Alan Rickman as Marvin's voice? Perfect :)

All in all I reckin perfect casting

Good spot there btw Goodshape :)

I think Marvin looks excellent, not what I imagined but still excellent. And Alan Rickman as his voice? Quality.

Wasn't to impressed by the trailer, but then again I think I'm making myself believe it'll be ****e so on the off chance it is I wont be to dissapointed.

Heh, I appreciate one of the IMDB posts:
I always envisioned Zaphod as a giant solemn frog, so this trailer has sorely disappointed me. Further more, I always thought of the guide itself as more of a large heavy canister of petrol, and I certainly can't see Mos Def playing Ford what with him only having two eyes.

But all those problems aside, what I find most infuriating is that Marvin is not, in fact, a tiny orange dinosaur like I so vividly remember seeing in the radio series.

Being a huge fan of the brilliant Douglas Adams I am furious that this movie is not exactly like I hoped it would be. Even though I haven't actually seen the movie yet, I'm absolutely certain that the quick two minute trailer has telepathically communicated with me, letting me know beyond a doubt that this movie is complete garbage. If Douglas Adams were alive today he would be mortified that my vision of the movie was not created.

Good point. Well, I remember in the TV series, David Dixon wore coloured contact lens, thats what was done to make him stand out. I'm sure there are a lot more black men from Guildford now, but not necessarily with an american accent. :) But, it was more of a surprise to me to find that Ford was black, than say, um, if Samuel L Jackson played Zaphod! :D

I'm still to be convinced that Mos Def is right for the role, regardless of skin colour. And, also, reading reviews on other forums with replies like "dude!" and "awesome!" don't fully convince me that this will be awsome.

What's all this I've been hearing about a love story as well?

99% of the rest of the decisions I can live with, and I'm even happy about but for me personally there never was a "love story" in the first book!

Either way though I'll be at the cinema with my towel in April!

So I'm not the only one then? I always thought he was a gun-metal grey, vaguely cylindrical 'bot, dunno why really, but like you I read the books well before Futurama appeared, so it wasn't from that.

I've no sound in work, but I'm certainly intrigued by the trailer. I always thought the Vogon ships were really, really yellow though, JCB yellow.

Its funny that you mention futurama because when I saw malfunctioning eddie all I thought was......
    Marvin

Christ almighty, this is the best trailer they could come up with?

Looks like Yet Another American Comedy. It does NOT bode well for the film.
