The inaugural International Congress on Complementary and Alternative Medicines is being held in Singapore at the end of this month. The theme is "Herbal Medicines : Ancient Cures, Modern Science".

It sounds like a meeting of real researchers interested in separating the wheat from the chaff when it comes to claims of the medicinal benefits of plants.

From an article in The Straits Times:

The chairman of the organising committee, Professor Yong Eu Leong, said: 'The congress will systematically explore herbal medicine for disease prevention. Our aim is to examine traditional and alternative medicines under the microscope of Western scientific standards'.
